Which one would be better for plainsgame, Kudu, Gemsbok, Zebra.

175gr. Swift A-Frame's or 160gr. North Forks these will be for a 280 Rem.

My concern is the 175 will dip to far into the case. I have some 160 Accubonds loaded up now and they are to the bottom of the shoulder. According to Nosler #5 with RL19 there is only 2grains difference in powder. I don't think I could seat the 175's deep enough.

So if the 175's are out will the 160's be enough and if yes which one would you use.

Or would you use a 160 North Fork over a 175gr. A-Frame.

Though my son used a 280 once with success, I wouldn't do it. You should see the difference a .375 would make.

My vote is for the 175 grains at about 2,700'/sec

I've thrown a lot of .284 bullets at game over the past few years and I love the 175 gr. Nosler partition. Loaded anywhere from 2300 fps to 3000 fps, it's dynamite.

I shoot the 160 grain North Forks with great success through my 7mm STW. A buddy took an identical rifle to Africa and used the 160 grain North Fork and killed 8 species of Plains game and now swares by the bullet. Good luck and good shooting.

I have heard nothing but good things about the Northfork
bullets.I'm going to try the 225 grains in 338wm when my
rifle is delivered.Will use it for moose,elk,bou,bear.

Northfork recommends the 160 gr bullet for elk so I think it will kill anything on an African plains game menu....But if I were to go,I would use a 338wm or 375 HH.

Caveat...I have never been to Africa or killed a single
African animal.

You are definitely going light with a .280 on kudu, gemsbok and zebra. It will work if all goes well, but you aren't leaving yourself any margin. Why handicap yourself? These are tough animals, tenacious of life--especially the gemsbok and zebra.

I would not feel comfortable with anything less than a .300 Win. Mag., and a .338 Win. Mag. or .375 H&H Mag.would be much better for these animals.

For just this reason, I am taking my .338 Win. Mag. (loaded w/ 225 grain Trophy Bonded Bearclaws at 3,000 fps) to Namibia this year for these animals and others.
