Anyone use Harry Lawson to build them a rifle, or have a stock made?

Harry Lawson passed away a few years ago, and I believe his son is carrying on the Lawson tradition and running the business now.

I've been in hunting camps where some of the other hunters were armed with Lawson rifles, and all of these guys swore by them. I looked these rifles over, and while they are not in league with true best-quality classic custom rifles, they were well-made and very durably finished. Good hunting rifles!

I never liked the Lawson safety, but the only "safety" I ever liked was the ones on Blasers and Krieghoffs.

I missed the oppurtinity ($$$$$$$$) a few years ago to get a custom 338 on a FN Browning with an octagonal barrel in the thumbhole. It was only $1200, but money was tight and I couldn't make it work.

I know Andy Samuels uses the rifles almost exclusivly.

I've owned a couple of Lawson rifles, and as Allen says, they are not in the top ten of custom rifles, but are well made, and are trouble free in my experience! I had a thumb hole stocked Lawson, chambered for 243 Win that would place 5 shots in one hole at 100 yds off the bench every time, with a half dosen different loads. I like the cocking piece shroud very much on his rifles made on FN actions. All mine were FNs so I can't speak for those on other actions, or those made by his son!

To hunt with a thumhole stock is akin to molesting ones mother...It just ain't done in good circles...

Hell, Ray, I once even bought a WEATHERBY rifle, but I don't admit it to anyone but my priest, and a few close friends! Also, I got rid of the Weatherby to avoid becoming a social outcast, and being considered in the same class as a $2 PIMP!

Nobody even noticed the thumb hole Lawson!

I have a friend who has a Lawson rifle in 300 Mag. Thumb hole stock, muzzle break, the full "Lawson" treatment. I helped him sight it in a year or so ago.
The rifle shot very well. It did not "walk around" when the bbl got hot.
