Angola: Skirmish between elephant, armed hunter leaves both dead

By LUSA

The confrontation between a hunter and an elephant ended with the death of both, in the municipality of Nambuangongo, Angola’s Bengo province, police said on Friday.

The attack occurred when the 54-year-old man went at night to check the traps he had set for hunting.

According to information from the Ministry of the Interior, the man was in possession of a Soviet rifle when he came across the mammal.

The hunter allegedly shot the animal, which reacted aggressively, “making several blows to the victim, which caused serious injuries and minutes later both succumbed on the spot,” explains the note.

The police also said they recovered the victim’s gun and an ivory tusk from the animal.

Sounds more like a poacher than a hunter to me. Typical media bias.

Not too many elephant hunters go out alone at night with an AK-47. I’m not sure Angola even has a legal elephant season.

When I read the title of this thread I thought I'd find another MJines elephant hunting adventure. Obviously not the hunter perishing, but the elephant skirmishing part sounded like his hunts.
