Depends on the airline, aircraft type and whether there is a member of staff licenced to handle firearms at the airports concerned.

The best thing you can do is have your travel agent and/or airline confirm in writing that they know you are travelling with firearms and get your outfitter to check/confirm locally as well.

With a name like that, I assume you're a biker? - I have a 1981 Honda CB900F tu2

Two trips, no problems. Same drill but less hassle than Jo'berg. The trick is getting back and forth from international to domestic and back to international.

You'll be glad to hear that Joburg International (or whatever it's called this week) and domestic arrivals and departures are now in the same building and it's a doddle.

Regarding actually travelling with firearms: Staff members now have to be licenced to transport them between building and aircraft and if there's no correctly licenced member of staff on duty (esp at the smaller airports) the airline is not allowed to accept the firearm for travel.

Regarding aircraft type, if there is access between cabin and hold whilst the aircraft is in flight, firearms may not be carried on the aircraft.

I'd highly recommend checking aircraft type before travel and having the fact you're travelling with firearms entered into the comments section of your booking and taking a hard copy of the booking with you.

Also ask your outfitter to confirm everything is good to go at the destination airport.
