Just wondering what hunting magazines everyone here subscribes to. Also, what are the best and worst magazines out there and why? Are there any gun magazines you prefer as well? Thanks for any responses

African Hunter, Sports Afield, (since their change of focus) Safari, African Sporting Gazette, and Magnum. Magnum also has good articles on rifles mostly by Gregor Woods, author of Rifles for Africa, a great source of info on all things pertaining to african hunting. Rifle magazine is pretty good. The only bad thing about Sports Afield IMO is Thomas Mcintyre who doesn't care for Africa but seems to have an agenda that opposes doing business with white PHs in Zim. The best thing about African mags( printed in Africa) is that their recommendations aren't determined by who paid for their last safari. I read them all tho. Adrian

Way too many for what I get out of them.

I guess I've seen and done too much myself to be impressed by most of the scribbling in the rags anymore.

I could do without all of them.

But if I lost my daily AR fix . . . now that would be another story. Mad

Magnum is the only one I subscribe to but I receive two other hunting mags as I´m a contributor.

Oh and SCI sends all sorts of "mags" but they are mostly advertisements.

Sporting Classics, Outdoor Life, Southern Sporting Journal, Sports Afield, Game trails, and Safari.

Sporting Classics is probably the best out there (and yes I write for them).

African Sporting Gazette, Sports Afield, American Hunter, Safari.
But as mrlexma said, they all pale in utility and entertainment in comparison to AR dancing

Can somebody provide a US source to order Magnum from. PH had back issues available to read and enjoyed it very much.

I've done several varied "Google" searches and ....lets just say the results were.....not what I was looking for.

You can order it via Amazon.com.

I subscribe to:
Safari
Magnum
Hatari
African Sporting Gazette
Sports Afield
African Hunter

I think those are the only African mags, but I might be missing one.

Graybird - guess I must be more computer challenged than I thought. Went to Amazon and searched the magazine section and entire site and came up empty again…at least as far as the magazine is concerned. (lol). Would you be kind enough to provide an Amazon link for Magnum magazine?

Try this link.

You can also bundle this with African Sporting Gazette and save a few $$$. At least I was able to do this about 2 months ago when I resubscribed. Matter of fact, I just received the latest issue of the ASG this week.

Edited: Look towards the bottom of the web page and you'll find where you can purchase both magazines for the reduced rate.

Cheers,

Graybird

Having been in the hunting business for many years I get them all and didn't even order them. I seldom read them.

African Hunter
Subscribed to Hatari times for quite a few years but the delivery and publication is so erratic that I saved the money for books. It's a rather expensive magazine to be so randomly published. It's probably one of the best but being a gunsmith I'm biased to Harald Wolff and really like his guns which do not follow the 'old' pattern usually. He built the only big bore I've ever seen with a handguard that I REALLY liked.
