Hyena kills man (80) New Ziana. November 8, 2010 An 80-year-old man from Bvurungwa Village in Rusape was last week attacked and killed by a hyena while on his way to a church service. Manicaland provincial deputy police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Jephry Mudzemba, said Misheck Madechiwe (80) was with his wife Maria Mahwandu (63) when a hyena charged at him. “The two advanced to it and it briefly disappeared. It resurfaced a while later and attacked Madechiwe from behind,” he said. Asst Insp Mudzemba said the wife of the deceased used her umbrella to chase the animal, but not before it severed her husband’s left arm and bit part of his face. “Peter Madembo (37), who was on his way to the same church service, carried Madechiwe to Bvurungwe Business Centre,” the police said. Madechiwe was then transported to Rusape General Hospital where he died. — New Ziana.
