I've noticed several posters with the "Free 500 Grains" icon. If you don't mind me asking, why does he need freeing? Banned from the forum or something? Just curious.... BN

He was banned for his participation on the Political Forum, where the gloves are supposed to be free to come off.

The wiff wouldn't be so bad if his views conservative weren't contrary to the administrator's and the moderators' liberal views.

500 Grains was one of the relatively few participants with significant dangerous game experience, particularly with elephants. He was an avid tester, keen observer and systematic collector of data. You can find the results of some of his tests in past African Hunter Magazines. Since the magazine is now owned by AR's administrator, I suppose his future contribution to the magazine is in question.

Moreover, 500 Grains was willing to help those who asked, or offer his best advice. Intollerant of BS though, which is probably what got him banned.

Yes, it was a typical liberal reaction. They can dish it out but can't take it. He wasn't politically correct. He's active on nitroexpress.com.

My view is as follows:

Rule No. 1. This is a guns and hunting board. Enjoy it and participate in it for that. You will not be disappointed. For that purpose it is the best there is, bar none.

Rule No. 2. DO NOT POST ON OR EVEN VISIT the so-called political forum if you are belabored by delusions of fairness. To call it a cesspool is to denigrate cesspools. This rule is not so much a commandment as it is a tenet of good sense and good taste. Violate it at your peril.

Rule No. 3. If you choose to violate Rule No. 2, then realize up front that you have chosen to venture into a realm where truth, justice and the American way are irrelevant.

Rule No. 4. If you somehow feel or claim that you've been induced to violate Rule No. 2 under false pretenses, then you are an imbecile. (I like the way imbecile sounds when pronounced the French way, "AM-BAY-SEEL," with the accent on the last syllable - it's much more pejorative on the ear.)

Rule No. 5. In such event, no amount of whining by you or your surrogates will avail you anything. You have violated the rule of good sense and good taste (i.e., Rule No. 2) and thus deserve the consequences, in spite of and notwithstanding every other conceivable countervailing consideration.

Rule No. 6. You do not make, and cannot amend or modify, any of the foregoing rules.

Rule No. 7. So please, and kindly, shut up about it.

500 was banned because he acted in an offensive manner on the political forum. By "offensive" I don't mean that he held different views than the moderators, I mean offensive as in racist comments.

Saeed owns this website. Imagine that this website is a big party that Saeed has generously allowed us all to attend. Now imagine that 500 is yelling "N!@@#R" at the top of his lungs and Saeed politely asks him to lower his voice. But 500 just yells louder, so Saeed shows him the door.

And now some people want to let him back in....

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

MR- I have found, in my short time here on earth, that politics and ANYTHING OR ANYONE do not mix well. I do my best to avoid it. I am extremely highly opinionated, and the political world has become a bad joke. Having said that, it's a shame that the political forum carries over to the African and/or Hunting forum: I thought these forums were a way to escape the oppresive reality of the political world.

I am also on board with you on the French pronunciation of eem-bey-SILE; hits the ears the way it should! F Politics-BN

French pronunciation is also good with "idiot" and "cretin". If you really want to venture into French terms for insults and negativity (they may be the world's leaders) I like "andouille" which can translated as either twerp or nitwit.

Yes, the first meaning of andouille is indeed sausage. There is also "con" in French (or the feminine "conne"), not to be confused with the chile con carne kind of con.

I do miss 5000 Grains.
Is it a coincidence that he got banned about the same time as we elected our first Hyphen, as in African-American president after all the just plain American ones all these years?

I think not.
