I hate to say it, but I let my HSC membership lapse and I joined DSC this year. Have been going to the DSC event for the past several years anyway. It really is sad that HSC has not been able to achieve the same success as DSC.

My commitment this year is to get more involved in both the SCI Gulf Coast Chapter and the HSC. I have been guilty of not supporting either in the past other than just being a passive member. While I am a member of the DSC, I think it is important to support the local organizations too. Unless we all make a commitment to support both financially and with our time it is easy to see why the local groups will not be successful. They really do do good work. I recall three years ago I was hunting in Mozambique and while walking through the town of Zumbo saw a sign indicating that a local water project was made possible by a donation from the HSC. In addition, the HSC publication, Hunters Horn, has gotten much better and with a little more support in the form of member submitted articles could be quite nice. Yes, HSC is not the DSC by any stretch, but it is my home town club and for that reason alone I intend to support it.

You make a very good point. I was a very passive member and did nothing toward the success of the club. Time is the real issue.

I have (had) the same issue. Now that I have a little more time, I figured I needed to give some back. I understand your issue completely though.

Had planned on going to our local Houston show, however I attended the Dallas show last week and was one of several who came down with the flu from that show. Been sicker than a dog. Very bad strain this year in Texas. So, I am not going for fear of spreading this nasty stuff to others. Should be good to go for Reno, I hope.
