Dallas is going to vote to build a new convention center about parallel to the current venue.
Noting the Kay Baily is to old and will not draw super conventions.
Said it would take 6 years if voted for.
More like an entire entertainment center.
Might be good to redevelop that end of downtown Dallas.
On the skirts of the hood.
The picture of a proposed facility look pretty neat / futuristic.
Need to construct some more hotels around it while they are at it.

The plans look nice.

It would be great if NSSF brought the SHOT Show to Dallas instead of Las Vegas. My first SHOT Show attended in 1996 was in Dallas when it was still called the Dallas Convention Center.

Lane,

The original convention center/arena was built in the 1950s, but has been updated, added to, many times since. The part where DSC is held is the newest part.

The plan is to take place over 10 years. It is claimed there is an estimated $500M-700M needed for maintenance and repairs. They spend about $1M a year on tarps for roof leaks. Many on here will remember the year DSC got flooded by leaks.

I do remember the SHOT Show back then. It was incredible.

DCS member probably has it nailed on how it has been added on over the years. They said on the programs that mentioned the details yesterday that it had been 50 yrs.
It passed the first city council vote today.
Now it will supposedly go to a public vote. They are saying $2B to build it but I would be surprised if any budget number was met when all said and done.
Expecting hotel taxes to pay for it. Better build some more hotels...Big expensive hotels.
They really need to clean up and develop the hood on the south side of the canyon to compliment such a venue.

What’s crazy is that the City of Dallas paid some firm something like $5M to do the feasibility study of renovate or replace. I’m not quite sure how “independent” they were.

I personally didn’t see too much of a need, other than that flood issue and the limited loading dock space. It definitely beats Market Hall.

No kidding about the south side. It’s definitely sketchy despite DPD HQ being right there. It was bittersweet to watch Eddie Deen’s demolition during DSC. I took my Bar prep there, but also had good times at functions at that venue.

It will be interesting to see where this goes. They definitely need to clean up the area. That's not a good place to be after dark.
