I've seen positive reports on the DGS bullets. Has anyone used them in a 416 on ele? I've been loading 400gr Barnes Banded Solids, and while it's a great performer, I've been having trouble getting them to feed reliably in my 416 Rigby rifle. It's at the smith's now for ministrations. As a back-up plan I've been thinking about the Hornady DGS. The Barnes hang up on the flat meplat once in a while with fast cycling of the action. The Hornadys look like they would feed more smoothly.

In the past 12 months, I've killed three elephants with Hornady DGS bullets, one each with the .458 Win Mag, .450 N.E. and .416 Ruger, respectively. The bull shot with the .416 Ruger (with Rigby ballistics) was a shoot through on a side brain shot, but I put in two insurance shots in the body, both, also, being shoot-throughs. The other two calibers gave similar performance with shoot-throughs or bullets found (undeformed) against the far skin on body shots. I'd just make sure to not bump up the velocity much on DGS bullets as they were designed for classic speeds. JMHO JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

We ave taken 2 elephants with .416 in Ruger with DGS one each side brain and heart. Function fine. I do however prefer the Safari Select with tungsten core. On .416 solids. Try the old Nitrex/ solid made of Naval brass with Tungsten core. Will not deform /bend / seperate under any reasonable situation. (Exception stone. ) The meplat is about 70%. Speer no longer makes but now are made by Safari Select. They own the tooling and are retired from Speer. These are available only as a component. Elton Rambin Mail/Ship: 1802 Horse Hollow Rd. Judge- I load my Rigby right at 2400fps. If I'd wanted a Weatherby, I'd have bought one. I like those low pressures and easy extraction. Elton- Interesting idea. Where do you source these? Google showed me nothing.

Like Judge G, I also used my 416 Ruger in the Alaskan model with 20" barrel. Great performance on my tuskless and buffalo last year. I also took my 450/400 with DGS but no buffalo dared face it while we were looking for them.
