Crocs kill 9 children in Angola 06/05/2009 16:02 - (SA) Luanda - Crocodiles killed at least nine children and attacked several women in Angola's southern Kwanza-Sul province in recent weeks, Radio Nacional de Angola reported on Wednesday. The children, aged between 10 and 16 years from the Amboim municipality, were killed as they approached the river Keve to collect water, the state-run radio cited local official, Domingos Bento, as saying. Bento said the attacks have occurred ever since a water canal in Amboim was shut down, prompting locals to go to the crocodile-infested waters of the river Keve to collect water. Crocodiles are ambush predators and while they spend a lot of time either immobile or gently drifting in river currents, they can show a surprising turn of speed. They can grow up to 4 metres in length. - Reuters Kathi kathi@wildtravel.net 708-425-3552 "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page."

Nine Angolan children have been killed "in recent weeks" by crocodiles while fetching water from the Keve River. Per a newspaper story published in May of 2009. Life is cheap to be sure, and dirt cheap in Angola. What else or more can one say? Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

It was probably not a good idea that I was swimming in the Zambezi River two weeks ago! My buddy shot a 13' croc about a half mile from the spot we were swimming a few days later. It was hot as Hell and we needed to cool off.
