well, i suppose if it doesn't hurt your dog, chances are good it won't hurt you. i used to take Larium for malaria prophy but switched to doxycyclin a few years ago to prevent malaria and protect against tick fever-sort of a kill 2 birds with 1 stone approach.

Fujo's solution works, but the better solution is not to get the ticks on you in the first place. While it might not be totally acceptable or safe, I usually take a little dog shampoo with tick and flea insecticide and use a bit in the shower. Haven't had a problem thus far.

WARNING !! Folk , please be very careful using veterinary or animal health products on humans. In SA there have instances where people have become severly ill and even some deaths caused by the wrongful use of such products.

TABLE 1
Ineffective or Dangerous Methods of Removing Ticks: What Not to Do
________________________________________
Do not use sharp forceps.
Do not crush, puncture, or squeeze the tick's body.
Do not apply substances such as petroleum jelly, gasoline, lidocaine (Xylocaine), etc., to the tick.
Do not apply heat with a match or hot nail.
Do not use a twisting or jerking motion to remove the tick.
Do not handle the tick with bare hands.

A pair of that type forceps or the key like the those pictured above would be a very good investment if hunting in tick infested hunting fields.
