I know everyone has ptrferences but I FINALLY get to go to Alaska for a Black Bear a Hunt and Zambia for a Plains gene and Buff Hunt next year. My primary rifle is a Stainless 375 Ruger in a McWoody and a I ghost ringed 450m 1895 Marlin. I plan to hand load 300gr Barnes TSX's in the Marlin but would like input on Solids for the 375 and a good dependable scope with a German #4 as well as any MUST HAVE equipment for theses 2 hunts. What say you? Bruz "Honor,Courage and Character" NRA Lifetime Member

Why solids for the .375? Why not a mono metal like in the Marlin? Something like a 250 grain GMX or 260 grain TSX would cover everything you listed nicely.

Sheep, So I could stay with 270gr TSX and do fine on the Buffalo? I will also be his back up on his Lion and Leopard with the Marlin. Thanks, Robert Bruz "Honor,Courage and Character" NRA Lifetime Member

I killed a cape buffalo two weeks ago with a 250-grain GMX. Ran 20 yards and died.

If you use a mono bullet, there is no need for solids. I have stopped using solids many years ago, except for elephants.

More gray than silver, but take a look at an illuminated Zeiss Duralyt 1.2-5x36.

Put a Trijicon 1-4 on the Ruger and leave the Marlin home. USMC Retired DSC Life Member SCI Life Member NRA Life Member

I've got to take an animal with the Marlin....Probably. Gemsbok. The man who is taking me as a guest has been over 40 times. We are going to have a PH but not a guy telling us "load/unload" or "shot...no shot"'m This is supposed to be a tent safari with 2 Hunters and 10+ porters per Hunter. He's footing the bill and said I could take "at least 2 Trophies and a Big 5...Maybe more" The founder of this site probably knows him or is related.
