I know everyone has ptrferences but I FINALLY get to go to Alaska for a Black Bear a Hunt and Zambia for a Plains gene and Buff Hunt next year.

My primary rifle is a Stainless 375 Ruger in a McWoody and a I ghost ringed 450m 1895 Marlin.

I plan to hand load 300gr Barnes TSX's in the Marlin but would like input on Solids for the 375 and a good dependable scope with a German #4 as well as any MUST HAVE equipment for theses 2 hunts.

What say you?

Why solids for the .375? Why not a mono metal like in the Marlin? Something like a 250 grain GMX or 260 grain TSX would cover everything you listed nicely.

Sheep,

So I could stay with 270gr TSX and do fine on the Buffalo?

I will also be his back up on his Lion and Leopard with the Marlin.

Thanks,

Robert

I killed a cape buffalo two weeks ago with a 250-grain GMX. Ran 20 yards and died.

If you use a mono bullet, there is no need for solids.

I have stopped using solids many years ago, except for elephants.

More gray than silver, but take a look at an illuminated Zeiss Duralyt 1.2-5x36.

Put a Trijicon 1-4 on the Ruger and leave the Marlin home.

I've got to take an animal with the Marlin....Probably. Gemsbok.

The man who is taking me as a guest has been over 40 times. We are going to have a PH but not a guy telling us "load/unload" or "shot...no shot"'m

This is supposed to be a tent safari with 2 Hunters and 10+ porters per Hunter.

He's footing the bill and said I could take "at least 2 Trophies and a Big 5...Maybe more"

The founder of this site probably knows him or is related.
