For sale: Blackburn extra deep bottom metal and magazine box for Winchester Model 70. Fits 416 Rem Mag, 458 Lott, etc. with 4 rounds down and one in the chamber. I have 2 of these that are new in the box. I was planning model 70 projects, but I have snobbed off and will be using mausers. $280 each plus shipping/insurance.

500, I have a Kimber M89BGR in .375 H&H that I would like to rebarrel and restock to a .400 based on the H&H case. I know the Kimber is a copy of the M70 with some changes. Are the Kimber and Winchester close enough for this to be a fit? thanks...jim dodd ------------------

500Grains would this fit my model 70 without machine work or having to take it to a gunsmith? I am interested OK.

500, I am interested as well if there is not any gunsmithing to be done. I am assuming the part is in the white?

Parts are in the white. Usually different screws are used (parts available from Brownells). Some people replace the follower and spring and some do not (parts available from Brownells). As far as fit, Blackburn sets these up to fit a model 70 classic (claw extractor). You take off the old bottom metal and take out the old magazine box. Then you put the new ones on. Given that model 70's often need some adjustment to the rails and ramp even on a factory gun, there is a chance that minor adjustment would be needed. However, these are not intended to create a milling machine project. Also keep in mind that extra deep boxes require a replacement stock. There is not enough wood on a factory stock to cover an extra deep box. These are not a bolt on accessory like scope bases. New bottom metal and a deeper magazine box are for project guns, not to retrofit a finished gun in a factory stock. If you are building a model 70, in my opinion then using an extra deep box is the way to go. If you already have a finished model 70 and are thinking of ways to fit one more shell in, you can go this route if you don't mind getting a new stock built and doing some bluing.

HunterJim, I am afraid that I do not know Kimber's dimensions, so I cannot say whether the model 70 metal would fit or not. Nick, From what I can tell, Mr. Blackburn will never have a website. His business consists of 1 machinist with 2 or 3 CNC machines, himself, an assistant, and his daughter who is the accountant. And he has plenty of orders. I waited 8 months to get these 2 bottom metals. (Now I decided to go with other project guns.)

DAMN, I forgot about the stock issue. Sorry 500grains, good price on those two items but I'm just not ready to get into restocking my .416 quite yet. Does anyone know if someone commercially produces drop box magazines similar to those utilized by Westley Richards that utilized a standard stock! Regards, JohnTheGreek
