I´m going to RSA in june to shoot the benchrest worldshampionships with some friends. After the benchrest match is over and done with we will dom some hunting! I´ve been to RSA with guns a few times before and the handling of guns at JNB have been both smooth and ruff in some ways....

What´s the situation now? Do I bring my gun with the aid of a "security staff" to the police as back in 06 when I was in RSA last time? We passed thru customs and then got the rifles on the luggage belt and was escorted by a security guy to the police office. On our way home last time some guys tried to rip us of pretending to be security staff. The situation became sligthly unplesant when he tried to get money from me and I told him that I wasn´t planning to giv him any.......

I´m only bringing my benchrest rifle, I´ll borrow a hunting rifle from friends down in RSA/Namibia.

You will not met any problems if you have all the document:

1. Gunlisence
2. Valid air tickets
3. Passport
4. Documentation for the world Championship
5. SAPS 521

Don`t try to pay off the officer at the Police
Your guns will be collected by the security staff at the airport, and brought to the Police firearmsaoffice
You pick up your luggage at the conveyor, and go too the Police office, follow signs, and declare the guns as normal, I think it`s important that you bring the firearms as spesified for the shooting competitions

Key step is missing here. You wait at the old firearms office just near the baggage carousel until the staff brings your gun case and then you sign for its arrival. Now you can go out and through customs and over to the new Police Firearms Office which is past the bank counters and turn right.
