Buck,
Are you saying that if you are paid money, then you would put your word and endorsement on something that may or may not work? So, ethics go out if enough money is involved?

Why do I think that the hosts were the guys in the cafeteria at school that no one would sit with?

It cetainly isn't in the class with Tracks Across Africa,,, but I watch it,,, heck I watch every show on Africa,, when it gets too "hokey" and they "yuk" it up too much I mute it out. On those shows I try and focus my attention on the quality of browse, the birds the topography,, the "bush"! I try to find something those guys totally miss or don't respond too. It beats about 600 of the other channels I don't watch on my TV

I don't especially like those guys but I do like looking at Africa and they seem to cover quite a bit of ground. That's the only reason I watch it.

You can't see the advantage because you don't sell them.

So pick your poison, another lame turkey hunt (or other equally mind killing hunt) or an African hunt albeit with more than a touch of yahooism (if that's a word). I'll keep watching if only for the laughs.

This type of show and all the rest of TV hunting for that matter, have made me a much better hunter. I turn the sound down and work on my off hand dry firing. (Rifle Pistol and shotgun)

Is the brain of a TV personality located in the same place as ours?

I think the show has potential to be good...it's just not there yet. We all know that a majority of the safaris every year are taken in RSA. They should have a big audience for this show as it is what a lot of guys have seen on their safari. The problem is, they don't really dig into where they are, the terrain, what they are doing, etc.

Most of the time it's: "Ray and I are here in the Karoo/Limpopo shooting blesbuck/impala/wildebeast with blank blank safaris".

Then it cuts to shooting animals with little pre-roll or story, and hero shots where they tell the viewer about how great the animals are here on blank blank's safari area.

The show could be so much better with just a few alterations and some background.

I am going on a PG hunt in sixty-seven days in RSA. My first one, but I have a feeling it is not going to be the crazy adrenaline rush...

Rich,
I hope it is "enough" for you. I am going on my first PG hunt in 83 days 20 minutes, but who's counting? Not that I'm fired up about it...

As for Donuts and Barrels, I have always adhered to the "No Beer with the Donuts" rule and keep them separated by at least 20 minutes! Wink

BACK ON TOPIC: If I can see the land (Africa) in the videos I'll watch it, but like others said, the dialog is best digested on "Mute".

Gotta go now and remove the 3-44 X 90 laser ranging, satellite GPS assisted, topo map aided guidance computer scope from my Etronics gun. I'm a purist you know.... jumping

Exactly! I wonder if it ever occurred to these guys to take 5 minutes and explain where the Limpopo region is or how it is different that the Eastern Cape or the Kalahari...

I don't think the guys even suspect that it is further to Cape Town from Dakar than it is to Moscow. Heck, it is closer to Dakar from New York City than it is from Dakar to Cape Town...

RSA isn't all the same, much less the hugeness of Africa... but those guys don't have a clue as to the difference, apparently.

This week the "B" boys were in Botswana. i watched part of the show hoping for something new. Same old thing. Shooting plains game at a water hole. I will give them credit for being good shots but they sure are a couple of goofs.

I agree Impala bow shots seem to get a little boring. However Impala are super highstrung and can easily "jump the string" on bow hunters. I have shot several with a bow, but these guys seem to shoot more than their share.

They make it seem that it is easy to bow shoot game at waterholes. Most ALL hunting videos, due to shortage of time, make taking the target animal of the day seem rather simple. Not really the case as the animals are always on alert at the waterholes.

Just curious? How many here have shot an Impala with a bow at a waterhole? For that matter how many here have shot anything with a bow at a waterhole. If you haven't done it, then please don't be so quick to dismiss and judge this as some sort of unethical, easy, for sure thing. IMO shooting any African species with a bow no matter what the situation is quite a large accomplishment. Been there, done that.

That was my problem as well. I understand many first timers have no idea of what is a true trophy in Africa. I certainly didnt when I started. Then again I wasnt making TV shows about it either. Roll Eyes

Guess I haven't had enough Crumudgeon Cookies yet this morning. I've got to give them credit. They found their way to get to hunt Africa a lot and get paid for it. Wish I was that smart.
I don't really care for their style and don't watch it often. I think it's growing in terms of quality. They seem to try to convey their excitement and do give some nice background stuff. There is certainly room for improvement, but there is in almost everything.
Now, where's that cookie jar!
