U.S. ambassador to Zimbabwe risks expulsion 11/07/05 - 08:05 AM Harare (dpa) - The U.S. ambassador to Zimbabwe risks being expelled from the country for "his continued meddling" in its affairs, a state-controlled newspaper reported Monday. U.S. Ambassador Christopher Dell ruffled feathers last week by putting the blame for Zimbabwe's economic decline squarely on the shoulders of President Robert Mugabe's government. "Precedent shows that host countries reserve the right to expel a diplomat whose behaviour they feel is unbecoming or undiplomatic and Zimbabwe could take that route in the case of Mr. Dell," said the Herald newspaper, seen as a mouthpiece of the government. The Sunday Mail reported that Dell was to be summoned by Mugabe this week. In a hard-hitting speech made at Africa University in the eastern border city of Mutare on Wednesday, Dell said: "Neither drought nor sanctions are at the root of Zimbabwe's decline. The Zimbabwe government's own gross mismanagement of the economy and its corrupt rule has brought on the crisis." State-run papers here have made much of Dell's detention for more than an hour by soldiers last month, after he wandered into a security zone in Harare's Botanical Gardens. The U.S. embassy said the zone was poorly marked: government officials in Harare said the ambassador was lucky not to have been shot. If Dell is not expelled, he could be put under open surveillance by government agents, the Herald said. Britain's former ambassador to Zimbabwe, Brian Donnelly, was put under open surveillance in 2002.

We can do more good by being involved than by turning tail.

If we wanted to be involved. We sould of helped Ian Smith stop Mugabe during the war. Instead we sold them out.Based on White Minority Rule being bad...The majority are in charge now...and have run a great country back into the stone age
