Anyone have a magnum mauser source?

I want it to cost under $1000 as I plan on throwing the floorplate away and going with blackburn.

I am going to build a totally rediculous 9.3x70 rifle. Then I am going to build it two brothers in 300 H&H and 500 Jefferys.

I am thinking outlout;
$1000 for the action
$500 for the floor plate
$750 for a 1/2 octagon barrel job
$300 for 3 pos safety (if it doesn't have it)
$250 for the barrel band.
$600 for sights from NECG
$1500 for a handle from American Gun Stock Co.
$250 for good blue and polish
$300 for a good checkered bolt knob and install

Wait a minuite that's almost $4000 what's Empire charge?

I have built 2 500Jeffrey's on Charles Daly actions. They have held up beautifully for me and cost under $400 with a decent trigger and fairly smooth bolt.

You don't say if you want to buy within the US or outside etc - but I was Sabi Rifles in Nelspruit the other day & they have some nice actions there - If you had them build the rifles from scratch I would think they would undercut the budget you mention....... take a look at http://www.sabirifles.co.za if you want to know more or want to see some of their work.

They built me a .500 Jeffrey a few years ago and I'm delighted with it.......

Chas Daly Action +/-$400 depending on source:

Dakota Arms SS safety-$145 @ Brownells

NECG Rear site-$125 @ Brownells

NECG Front site-$34 @ Brownells

NECG Blades-$25 @ Brownells

London Guns Pre Tapered BBL band-$50 @ Brownells

Boyd's JRS Classic stock, xxx grade black walnut, Pachy Decelorator, Inletted for Mauser-under $500

Seems to me $4000 is a bit high, even allowing extra for the bbl you want and a steep $1000 for gunsmithing work

HHMAG,

Your my hero!

The actions are great, do you think they would fit the 404 Jeffery case?

The barrels are damn light for a 458, let a lone a 375.

I see many new custom mausers in the safe, based on Chaz Daly actions.

My math with your parts and my stock (Boyds doesn't make one for a dropped mag) is a little more, but I can make it work.

hey that charles daly action looks real familiar, i have a very cheap german 30-06 that has an action just like that. Full mauser action with side safety, instead of the flag safety, long mauser bolt with gas shield. do you know whether these daly actions are made in the states or in europe? Mine actually says oberndov on the side hinting at german/east origin. anyway its an oldie, but is a pretty good tool.

If the work can be done that well and economically, it may be worth me custom building in the states to the ship to africa.

my rifles live in south africa with my dealer and PH there. also i have tried getting in touch with sabi rifles and their email is not recieving, will try calling in stead as their web forms are out too.

cheers. tm

A custom American mauser could be had for $2500 as well, but I am in the military and trying to save a few $$$$$.

Less on new rifle = more dead animals with new rifle!

By the time you get your finished rifle it will be 2010. Never mind the money. Easy come easy go.

In the mean time buy a Ruger RSM and it will get the game.

Here is one for under $900 complete with immediate delivery.

D99, I have built 2 404's on Daly actions. I am currently building my third 500 J on one. The bolt face will handle it fine. I have Boyd's stocks on all but 3 of my 14 Mausers and they handle dropped floorplates admirably. They Daly actions are I beleive (could be wrong, it's happened once or twice before) made in the old VZ or BRNO factory. New BRNOs share much of the tooling with the CZ, but I think these are made in one of the old wartime factories. They are very solid, the bolts take a minimum of raceway polishing to smooth out quite nicely, and there is a bunch of extra metal in the front web area. I began using them a while back along with 1917 Enfields to do custom rifles and I haven't been dissappointed yet.
