Well gents and ladies . . . I just accepted a job in Cairo, Egypt! Granted, it ain't like I'll be living in Zambia or Tanzania but I'll still be pretty darn close to some good hunting even in the northern part of the continent. I also get to be closer to my family in Crete and it looks like I'll need to find me a good shotgun for waterfowling in the Nile Delta
Excited as hell!

JTG - You wont last 48 hours in the classroom. As soon as you try to cram your liberal views down your students impressionable little throats, the federal Police will come gunning for you and lock you away for subversive activities against the government.
In any event, good luck to you and make sure you vote Republican before you leave - there is not a Democrat in this country with the balls to come save you...

Congratulations! I'm more than a little bit jealous and you'll undoubtably have an experiance of a lifetime. See as much as possible and don't be afraid to taste a little of everything while your there. Giardia might litterally be a pain in the a$$, but it won't kill you! Good luck.

So you couldn't resist, eh? Good luck, buddy! When you come back we'll do the wood bison thing here. If you think you can still bear -30 after being spoiled in the desert.
Thanks all (even you, ZD ) for the kind thoughts. It should be an adventure and a half as I will be there a minimum of two years (with some summer breaks for the occasional safari, of course). Not to worry though as I don't need to be there until August and will certainly continue annoying people on the Political and African Hunting forums once I get settled in after that.
Urdubob,
I can still set you up on a cat hunt. This was the year to go with the brand new quota system on the Manti Unit but next year should be great too!
Fotis,
I have a bit of family in Sfakia so I will definitely get there (although we all know the REAL men of Crete live in Gavalohori)
Frans,
Yep, I just heard that irresistable call to adventure I guess. Come shoot some ducks and geese when you get the chance (I'll be on the look out for bargain Ibex opportunities too ) and I'll definitely be up there for bison again . . . those damn big shaggy things just keep calling me as well.
Best,
JohnTheGreek

Cairo!? You are just tomb-much, John! Congratulations and sincere wishes for a most wonderful and elightening experience. May you find something that dwarfs the Rosetta Stone!
Pending the outcome of the election, the offer of the retzina still stands. I think you have a better chance of collecting now, although I still hope you don't.

You should be able to accumulate some nice rugs before you return home. Also, since you will be so close to Saeed now, you'll have to attend some of his wild parties and tell us all about it, as long as the crocs don't get you.
And if you find the Ark of the Covenant, please don't open it..... Remember what happened when Indiana Jones did?

El Hamdulela! I hope you enjoy your time there as much as I did! Was there from '66-'67 'til the Israeli fighter jets showed up! (6-day war for you youngin's). I thoroughly enjoyed the cultural aspects of our stay and the history will boggle your mind. Bone up on your Arabic (as I mentioned in a prior post) and you'll enjoy your time even more. Wish I could help you with the language before you go, but there are lots of good study aids available. Remember to pick just one bird in the flock! Masalama...baadein! jetBlueman
