I saw an ad for these new rifles from Rem. They're Mauser actions being imported by Rem. as barreled actions made in Euope and stocked by Rem. with a laminated stock. They're available in 375 H&H and 458 Win. Has anyone seem them? Any impressions as to their quality?

They are basically an Interarms/Charles Daly barreled action. I have not seen one and cannot comment on quality. However, the Rem stock is an ugly throw-away. It seems Rem is stuck in the 1970's with regard to stock design.

Dan,

I looked at one in the Remington booth at SHOT. The rifle is made by Zastava, who previously made them for Charles Daly, and who previously made them for Interarms, etc.

Remington has a multi-year deal to import these models, and a Zastava staffer told me other models would be availble in the future.

CDNN has some Charles Daly marked .375 H&H and .458 Win rifles with attractive wood stocks, and they are available now. You can download their catalog. IIRC they are about $650.

I handled one at the RMEF show in Reno, it felt like crap to me. Fit and finish were poor, and the action felt like it had sand in it. I was not impressed to say the least.

Mink and Wall Tents don't go together. Especially when you are sleeping in the Wall Tent.

Thanks for the info. guys. Doesn't sound so promising. I've handled some of the Charles Daly bolt actions and I wasn't impressed. It's a real shame Rem. can't come up with something better.

here in norway it was gunstore called jaktdepoet who imports zastava. Many of them is fine, but the 375 and 458 is nothing more than a standard receiver lenghtened to magnum. on the other hand they had a series of rifles that was made before the civil war broke loose in the balkans and they was made for milosevic and high ranking politicians ,officers you name it. they were vip guns, beautiful stocking and a engraving that was spectacular. unfortunately, there was one flaw , they sold like hotcakes befor i made my mind up.

Mr Rigby,

Zastava still make very high grade guns. But, Remington are not going to import them. You might be able to get them in Europe - I know a girl whose mother works at the Serbian embassy in Washington and we have talked about guns a few times. She is a student in Chicago and I shall try and get some information when I meet her next.
