Both GuideStar and Charity Navigator lists VETPAW but neither one of them have any financial or impact information on them. Do they actually do anything except raise money, run their mouths, and do photo shoots.

As for "Zimbabwean law", (a) the lion is not on Schedule 6 of the Parks & Wildlife Act, which lists specially protected, or "endangered" animals, it is on Schedule 9 which lists "dangerous" animals. There is no death penalty for any offence under the Parks & Wildlife Act, though there is an officially-sanctioned "shoot-to-kill" authority for use against poachers within national parks, and there is a parks and wildlife Indemnity Act, which pretty much absolves law enforcement of blame for "any act" committed in good faith to suppress illegal hunting.

One outfit that does do really good work is the International Anti-Poaching Foundation, which is pretty mil-spec themed. And, as you'd expect for the real deal volunteers pay to get their hands dirty and put in a hard days' work, complete with early morning PT and none of the glamour.
