What is the current trophy fee for lion in Tanzania? Not the daily fee or overall costs....just the trophy fee. I am hearing conflicting numbers on this. Thanks, Garrett

N.Garrett, the permits for the lion is usually bought at auction from the government, for a price, then the PH, outfitter sells the lion for what the market will bare. This is why the trophy fees differ from one safari company to another. Most are very close in price,in a given area, however! Some, if not all use a siding scale on trophy fee for the big five trophies, the better the trophy the higher the fee. This especially applies to elephant. You will have a base fee, for say a 30 lb, and under. Then as ivory lbs, above that minimum weight, add up, so does the fee! ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

Different safari companies charge different things. We know the government's fee is included, but some companies add on a premium to cover the cost of their year-round anti-poaching patrols. Others that hunt in the Selous, for example, have no such anit-poaching issues and, hence, have no premium added. For example, TGT charges $5,000 for a lion, $2,500 of that going to anti-poaching. Luke Samaras, who hunts in the Selous, charges a flat $3,000.
