Thierry that column my go up tonight as we have a raid on some poachers that shot an ele last night!

On a separate note I would like to apologies to George DeBell who I hunted with earlier this year who also made a super donation through CF. Unfortunately CF have been so busy with trying to reverse the ivory ban etc that we have not been notified of some donations- if this applies to anyone else please drop me a line so I can thank you directly as I feel very embarrassed as in Georges case- Thanks George!

Just another great example of how hunters and hunting organizations actually walk the talk as opposed to conservation and animal rights groups that more often than not are all talk and little to no action. Well done DAPU.

Great job Buzz. I will see you at SCI with what I can donate again this year. For those of you who have not been to the CMS website, go to DAPU, they have a fantastic breakdown of the cost they are dealing with. You might think, oh I don't have enough to help out but you do. Flashlights, knives, hats, and so on, these guys need this stuff and will use it to the fullest.
Once again Buzz and Myles, thanks for doing so much to protect the great hunting you have by way of your efforts to stop poaching.
See you next month in Vegas, Jeff

All encouraging, Buzz. In view of what the survey said about ele populations in the valley, very much needed.
Since I'll be sending a bit of money for 2016 soon, I'll add a bit for DAPU.

Mike,

It actually goes much further than that.

Hunters pay from their own pockets for conservation.

So called "animal rights" organizations - like HSUS and PETA take money from Joe Public on false pretenses, line their own pockets, and end up murdering more animals than they save!!

Buzz,

You are doing great work, and setting a great example.

Please keep it up.

Saeed,

To your point about animal rights groups taking money from the public on false pretenses, the ASPCA is running a commercial currently that is a perfect example. The commercial is almost two minutes long and is a pitiful and abhorrent play on pure emotions. It has been running during prime time over the holidays.

But to show you what we are up against, I decided to check on the ASPCA. Their total revenues for fiscal year 2012 were over $160 million . . . $160 million. And that is one organization. If winning the political, public relations and social media war comes down to money . . . we're toast.

Thanks for the comments Guys. Bongi our main DAPU guy in the East arrested two Mozambique poachers armed with the most amazing muzzle loaders-

Interesting story though- while on patrol they heard a dog yapping and went to investigate which lead to the two poachers been arrested. The the dog which lead to the poachers demise was yapping because it had been caught and eventually killed by a huge python- unfortunately the poachers were in the act ( successfully) of killing the python when they were arrested. I have a few pics taken with Bongis cell phone and will see if I can post!

I would also like to thank Odin- the "great Norwegian hunter" for his donation! Cheers Buzz

Buzz, I would think, hunting brings lots of money to Zim Game dept. So one would think they ( Zim Game dept ) would make utmost effort financially and physically to protect all the hunting areas as they make them most money.
That way private donations could be used in other ways to help concessions.
Just wondering about all this as I really don't have a clue about the whole process in Zim

Congrats Buzz,CMS on taking the initiative and setting up DAPU.Anti-poaching is not cheap and financially not possible to fund with the current concession and community fees.
Not only but Parks and wildlife as well as communities do not have the capacity to protect wild life areas.

Follks at the end of the day if the operators do not stand up and pay attention to their areas we will lose more concessions to human encroachment.

a special thanx to all the contributors and the men on the ground that have taken up the fight to protect our heritage.

Thanks Guy. Boarkiller- in theory you are correct. As the custodians of Parks areas such as where we hunt, National Parks are supposed to do all the anti-poaching. However the reality is, as Guy says, they simply do not have the capacity to. There are many reasons for this but mismanagement of their funds is obviously the big one!

Bottom line though if we do not do it it does not get done. Can you imagine- the National Parks has 1 land cruiser that is in a state of disrepair ( 4 wheel drive does not work even!!) to Patrol well over a million acres!

Boarkiller - You are absolutely correct, but the efficiency of Africa in terms of theft, nepotism and corruption cannot be described! The cultural gap between Africa and Western values are huge.

Between hunting on private land in the RSA and Namibia and the DAPU model CMS are using for the rest of Africa all our hunting in the future will have to be accommodated. Where anti-poaching is not supported directly by hunting fees or indirectly by donations from hunters there will be nothing to hunt.

The anti-hunting brigade hasnt got the fibre and backbone for the funding and hard work on the ground to control poaching. The only place they can wage any campaign is through the media.
