Getting An Exceptional Trophy!

I was watching a fishing show, and I one boat caught an exceptionally large tuna.

Weighed over a thousand pounds, while most caught are less than half that.

They started talking about all the skills it takes to catch this size fish!

I laughed so much.

Reminded me of highly placed trophy hunters in the SCI book talking exactly the same way!

What a joke!

All boils down to sheer LUCK! rotflmo

Hahaha! Just find a big boat, the right gear and some good luck.

But, to be honest, fishing is a mystery to me. And a deadly boring one, besides.

If any skills are involved, I admit they are skills I do not possess! Big Grin

Well, there is some skill involved…

Getting the boat in the right place, having the crew make sure nothing interferes with the landing of the fish, and proper care once it’s gotten alongside.

I’d agree that catching a big fish is a random event that doing things right increases your chances.

Similar to hunting. Skill gets you in the right spot and evaluates the animal as being good, but it’s all luck to spot that particular one any given time.

Your skill is being quiet, attention to terrain, and shooting well (enough).

Yes, it’s often the pro staff that provide most of the skill.

If you hunt enough, the odds increase you will shoot something big at some point.

That’s hunting.

Going to a game farm and saying I want an animal with xxx characteristics and being led to him is just shooting.

No doubt much luck is needed but to present as if a tremendous amount of skill, technique and hard earned experience is not needed to be an exceptional fisherman (or hunter for that matter) makes you look like the ignorant “trigger man” behind the real hunter. I would also present that to land a fish that size once hooked takes an incredible amount of the same from everyone on the boat.
