I do not see any reason why the quality of a 116 should be of issue I would not hesitate to take this gun to Africa, why else would you buy a big bore. The reason I ended up with a 116 was I just read to many problems people were encountering with the M70 and I am a believer that when you pay good money for an american made product it should at least perform what is expected. I just can not see spending good money to make the gun do what the manufacturer should have done in the first place. I say vote for what you expect with your dollars, that should get Winchester or whomever to do what they are paid for, especially a large caliber made for the most dangerous game on the planet. Should this firearm fail to meet the standards of what I paid for I will be the first to say so.

I agree all the way, Raamw, it's your money, and I see absolutely no reason why you would have to bough your head for useing a 116SE if that is what you want. I've thought of buying one in 375H7H, or 338 a couple times to use in Alaska's rainy September hunting season. The addition of a quality synthetic stock would make it perfect for Alaska/Canada brown, or black bear, caribou, and Moose! In fact this, and the other string has just about convenced me to buy one just to prove a point! The only thing I have ever found objectionable about Savage rifles, is they are ugly, but the 116SE is not even hard to look at, and I have never owned a Savage that was not accurate. Do your thing, and don't worry about opinion, everybody has one of those, and other's opinions are no more valuable than yours! For the time being, this is still America!

I have one of those butt ugly model 110s in a 30-06. Love the action and accuracy but I think I will attempt to rework that nasty looking Savage stock myself.

I also shoot a Mark II 22 lr and it theres nothing I dont like about it. They are much eayser to look at with a synthetic stock IMO.
