This reminds me of the good old days of AR when most everyone seemed interested in helping each other.

Thanks for the reminder Nick.

ALLEN W. JOHNSON - DRSS

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

I bought a rifle off Eric. My Tikka U/O in 9.3x74R.

A good guy.

My husband and I shared many a meal with Eric and his wife Rita...as Gunsite alumni and friends. I still use a Ching Sling on my .308 and wouldn't hunt without it. I do miss him!

Best regards, D. Nelson

Hmmm... yes I do remember the old days and the old hands on AR. And I miss them.

May I ask what happened to Eric?

Allen,
we are living in the "Good old Days" right now. There are still a lot of wonderful folks who visit this forum on a regular basis. We still look out for each other just as we always have. Its true that there are more people visiting this place than what was around 10 or 12 years ago, and as a result there are more Pin Heads than ever before. But that is how life works right? The good guys are easy to spot and always will be.

RIP Slingster

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! Can't say I knew him, but I'm sorry to hear of the passing of a fellow AR member.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Sorry, firewall at work kept me from the Photo page.

Sorry to hear of another "hunting brother" passing. Condolences to his family and thanks again to Nick for reminding us of how he lived his life!

Eric shared his load info with me when he was working on it. Immeadiately tried it and found it to be great in my rifle as well. He was a gentleman and it was an honour to have known him. Now that I think about it I have been shooting the bigger stuff and have not played with the Steyr for awhile. I think I will take it out to the range and remember a fellow AR poster who freely shared his information with others.

I knew him only by his great reputation. RIP Eric Ching.

The Ching sling is a great hunting sling.

I only met Eric once, but it was clear that he was one heck of a nice guy. R.I.P.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

My condolences to his family and rest in peace Eric. I lived the fight against cancer and also my father's defeat (my father died in 2003 due to lung cancer and understand why the family must feel.)

A hug,

Oscar.
