Just returned from a 14 day hunt on the Siabuwa/Manjola communal lands. Hunted with PH Gavin Rorke and Russ Broom safaris. Had an excellent hunt, no problems in the hunting areas or in the 2 days we spent in Harare.

Took

Elephant - 45 pounds
Buffalo - 37 inch
Kudu - 57 inch
Zebra
Bushbuck
Duiker
Grysbok
Genet
Serval - big tom

Tried for leopard but no males on bait, only females some with young. Will try to post some pictures next week.

Mamba,

The grass is very tall and plentiful and water seems to be everywhere. We burnt a couple of small patches of grass and the fire quickly went out as in most places it still is somewhat green. By the way we did see a mamba and a cobra while we were there.

Sounds like a terrific trip BigB.

When I was hunting with Rory in April he said after a run of bad luck and a bad client or two that Gavin announced he was tired of elephant hunts. Did you talk him into it?

Rory did say Gavin was very interested in some of the bulls he had taken and thought Gavin might be tempted back into more hunts.

Can't wait for the pictures?

Which camp were you in? I hunted out of Songo and Chizirira and there was very little grass.

Retreever,

I think the area I hunted is a little NW of where you will be hunting. We got quite close to several elephants. I shot mine from about 25 yards.

Kyler,

I hunted out of Songo. I think they had late rains which made the grass grow. Gavin knows I have good luck with elephants so I do not think it was a problem. However this hunt may change his mind as my first 470 TB solid riveted on the shoulder so we had to shoot it a bunch. Gavin kept saying that he saw the dust fly from the first shot and it was good, he could not understand how it was still going. I guess bullet failure is one way. It actually turned out that I had two TB solids rivet. I will need to rethink bullet selection for my next elephant hunt. Gavin is out on another elephant hunt right now so I do not think he has given it up. By the way Russ and a client shot an 82 pounder out of Kabuba while we were there.
