Jumbo Kills Woman

AN elephant yesterday killed and crushed into pieces an unidentified woman in Livingstone, police have said.

The woman was attacked early yesterday morning within Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park while her child was found still alive but with deep cuts on the head a few metres away from the scene.

Southern Province police chief Lemmy Kajoba, who rushed to the scene after a tip-off from Sun International Zambia security personnel, confirmed the development yesterday.

Mr Kajoba said the child estimated to be below the age of five years was rushed to Livingstone General Hospital for medical attention.

A Times of Zambia team that rushed to the scene yesterday found police and wildlife officers picking up the pieces of the woman which they took to Livingstone General Hospital mortuary.

Some eye witnesses found at the scene said the woman could have been killed between 08:00 hours and 09:00 hours as she tried to evade a police roadblock mounted near Sun International Zambia area.
