I hunted there after living in Cairo during the mess there.

CAR is not for the weak hearted. The outfit I hunted with CAWA has the system figured out getting us in and out without major issues. I would not freak out over what CNN shows on TV, contact Erik Mararv or your agent about what is really happening.

Sometimes what looks like shootings and killings is not what you see.

Would I go there to hunt? Yes if Erik and his folks tell me it is ok. They live there and know the people.

the BBC is not known for sensationalistic journalism and today they reported over 300 people killed in Bangui, many of whom where in the area around the airport.

The whole region seems to be in turmoil. SA lost 26 paratroopers a while back when 200 paras defended their base against an estimated 5000 rebels.

UN troops act against DRC's Rwanda rebels

2013/12/10 08:34:30 PM

Kinshasa - United Nations peacekeeping troops in Democratic Republic of Congo have launched operations against a Rwandan Hutu rebel militia operating along Congo's border with Rwanda, the UN commander said on Tuesday.

Defeating Rwandan FDLR insurgents, who have long been used as a pretext for intervention in Congo by neighbouring Rwanda, is seen as the next step in ending decades of conflict along the veteran foes' shared border, weeks after the Congolese Tutsi-led M23 rebels were defeated.

General Carlos Alberto dos Santos Cruz said on UN-backed Radio Okapi on Tuesday that his troops would attack the FDLR rebel forces in a bid to secure a road between the eastern Congolese towns of Kitchanga and Pinga.

"Everyone knows that the presence of armed groups along the border creates problems with the neighbouring states," he said.

In November, UN soldiers in a newly formed intervention brigade with a robust mandate supported the Congolese army with artillery and attack helicopters in defeating the M23 rebellion, the most serious in Congo in the last decade.

The brigade, made up of troops from South Africa, Tanzania and Malawi, will also lead operations against the FDLR, which has launched sporadic attacks in Rwanda in an attempt to destabilise Rwandan President Paul Kagame's government.

The FDLR, is a Hutu, anti-Kigali rebel group sprung from militias operating out of eastern Congo since fleeing the 1994 genoocide of 800 000 Tutsi and moderate Hutus.

"We have already intensified patrols and observation along the border and we are planning operations against all rebel positions along the frontier," Dos Santos Cruz added.

At the start of December, the UN also unveiled surveillance drones that it will use to monitor the volatile border between Congo and its neighbours Rwanda and Uganda.

2 people lynched in CAR
2013-12-23 21:27

Bangui - Witnesses say a Muslim man and his son have been lynched by an angry crowd of Christians near the airport in the capital of the Central African Republic.

Tony Ferrera, who is among the 40 000 refugees seeking shelter at the airport, said Christians there organised a march on Monday to demand the departure of the country's Muslim president, who came to power in a coup nine months ago.

Ferrera said that as the Christian crowd was marching, a Muslim family came from the opposite direction. He said the man brandished a gun and began shooting in the air.

Ferrera says the mob surrounded the man, lynching him and his son. His wife was able to run away. French forces deployed in the capital were forced to intervene to restore order.
