A good friend is flying Montreal-Heathrow with Air Canada and Heathrow-Barcelona with British Airways.

She will be carrying a rifle as part of her ckecked-in luggage.

She has been told that the rest of the luggage can be checked-in all the way through to Barcelona, but that she needs to pick up the rifle at Heathrow and re check it in again.

Having heard all kind of stories about Heathrow and BA she would like to hire an escort service to give her a hand because she only has 2 hours to make the connection.

Any comments or suggestions, please?

A few hours ago a sent an email to rw@gunrunner.cc following Mark Young's advise from a previous post but have received no reply so far.

Thanks in advance,

Montero

I am using Bob Nagra at PDQ this week. So far I have nothing but good things to say regarding their service.

Montero,

If the BA flight is going from the new Terminal Five, I wish her the very best of luck!

When the terminal opened recently, the luggage handling was a disaster for BA, and I believe there are still major problems with luggage routinely failing to make flights.

Even discounting this chaos, I suspect that your friend will still definitely need a "bonded carrier" such as Ron Wharton to transport a firearm around the airport, even if technically she remains "air-side" for the complete process.

Regards,

Pete

I used PDQ last November. They met me at Gatwick, stored my guns overnight and then met me at Heathrow the next day. Very professional.

Richard from Gun runner contacted me. He is busy in that particular dates but he was kind enough to put me through to Bob Nagra.

Bob advises against trying to make it with only two hours and suggested she changes her flight and this is what we are trying to do now.

If it is not possible the rifle will have to stay in Canada as I cannot imagine the nightmare of loosing the connection or leaving the rifle behind.

Thank you and best regards,

Montero

My wife and I traveled through Heathrow in 05. We did fly BA both legs but they were a P.I.T.A. getting the rifles checked in in the first place. Didn't have to bother with them in G.B. but when we claimed them in JoBerg we discovered one case had the latches cut off - not the locks but the latches! Nothing was missing but its a miricle it wasn't. The aluminum case was a total loss and required some creative packing to get two rifles and my shotgun into one case for the return flight.
If that didn't sour me on BA there was the lightening strke while we were leaving the airport on the way home, after which they continued on to the states! Again, all was OK in the end but my wife didn't relax till we were on the ground in Baltimore!
