I have not read the book but I do have the video. I thought the video was well done and worth watching.

I have the video and have found it to be very informative.

Surely it is as good a buff hunting video as you will find. Andrew McClaren (IIRC) knows how to hunt buff. You will just have to suffer through some commercial plugs here and there in the video but it does not detract too badly on the whole, and is a necessary grease for the machinery. It was obviously a very well received video as Craig has gone on to a second (Leopard) and a third (African Experience) since that first Buffalo video.

The buff video was excellent. The leopard video is not as good but still one of the better ones out there.
I would buy it again.

I believe the PH's name is Andrew Dawson!

As someone said, there are some comercials in the film, but there is no lack of usefull information on buffalo hunting in that film. I find I enjoy films that tell you something about the Safari experience, as well as the hunting, to be much better than the "RACK UM AND STACK UM" kill fests on a lot of films today! The film is long, about two hours, but is IMO a good film! beer

Lots of talk, lots of ads, not much action.

If you are interested in buffalo hunting, then I would recommend the book Nyati published by African Hunter.

Craig's "Boddington On Buffalo" video is an excellent quality product. The video is filmed in the Zambezi Valley. I thought Andrew Dawson of Chifuti Safaris was terrific working with Craig. The video content includes:

1. Prime Hunting Destinations
2. Pre Safari Preparation
3. Rifles, Cartridges, And Equipment
4. Hunting And Tracking Techniques
5. Trophy Judgement
6. Shot Placement
7. Taxidermy And Trophy Care
8. The Danger Factor

Happy Holidays,

I agree, it must be the best book on buffalo yet.

Although "BOB" is technically a high quality hunting video, it felt like the majority of those nearly 3 hours was used for product placement and "campfire" talk. Some of it was interesting talk, but I think the film could have been edited down to about half the length.

I have both the Buffalo and the Leopard video and really like them both. I find the "campfire talk" interesting and informative. After all that is what most of us do at days end while on Safari, right? Also the "ads" as some put it, I also find entertaining and useful. A lot of the products they talk about in more detail than your average commercial really help me determine their real value. In fact don't all of us "talk up" the products we use and like? I like videos that encompass "the whole hunt/trip as opposed to the "shootemup" style some portray. I am looking forward to CB's seminar in Reno and snagging a copy of his new video as well. I have noticed a lot of the footage on the TV show Tracks Across Africa are also contained in the videos. Oh well, doesn't hurt to see really cool scenes several times, especially during these cold winter months.

Both DVD's are good. The African Hunter book Nyati is good, but so is Kevin Robertson's new book on hunting buffalo.

I thought that the leopard video would have been better condensed a bit to just over two hours. It did get a little slow at times. Just my two cents.

Yes, but how many of us talk up a product that we think is crap because we are getting paid to do so?

Exactly my thoughts, to long and lots of product placement. Worst of all, no Waltherhog Razzer

Has anybody read Robertson's new book on buffalo? How does it compare with Nyati?

Wink- I have both. Nyati has a lot of recent history content which is good. The Robertson book is well done with excellent photos. I would not pick between the two. Anyone spending the dollars to hunt buffalo is foolish to not have both in my opinion. Unless you have twenty or so in the salt.....

500 grains - I agree a lot of show hosts have a hard time convincing us they really like the product that sponsors them. However, I don't think Craig B has much of a problem talking about the companies/products that sponsor his Tracks Across Africa series. With the likes of Surefire, Swarovski, Blade Tek, Dakota Arms, Dallas Safari Club to talk about, seems that all of these are somewhat above the "crap" level. The whole World is a commercial of sort these days so don't mind the good ones at all. Production costs to produce a show the quality of Tracks is way up there, so reality is that the cost has to be recouped somewhere. Like I said, don't mind the commercial aspect in both videos at all. Have a good Holiday Season.

I know nothing about Tracks Across Africa, and Surefire is an excellent product. My post was in reference to Bod on Buff.
