I am getting read for an elephant hunt next month and my rifle is just not shooting the 400 grain Nosler Partition the way that I'd like it to. It is shooting the Dead Tough solid into cluster at 50 yds, but "patterning" the Noslers. I have some Hornady soft points and old style solids, also some 350gr old style Barnes X without the groves. I have looked around for Barnes X and A Square 400gr but they seem to be bought up and sold out. Experience with the Hornady's and lighter Barnes bullets would be appreciated. Kudude

Midway had 400gr Woodleigh RNSP's. I got two boxes. I hope this solves my problem. Kudude

kudude: I used the old style 410 gr solids on buffalo and they appeared to work very well. Administered a coup de grace and it zipped right through. Also, they shot to the same POI as my 400gr Swifts out of my 416 Rigby. jorge USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

You owe it to yourself to try the North Fork bullets. The cup point solids and flat point solids I used worked perfectly and the soft point was shooting about an inch higher and did the deed on plains game. You really should give them a try. Mike will even sell you a 5 pack of several different styles to give them a try. square shooter

I have used the old and new Hdy solids for several years. They have never let me down. Have recovered 2 and I beleive both could be restuffed and refired. One of these went thru the spine of a buff and was recovered in his knee. Why not use the reference standard in 416 Remington, the bullet that gave the 416 its current day reputation, George Hoffmans favorite, the 400 grain Swift? Relatively cheap Remington factory ammo and easy to duplicate with RL-15 which I think is used in factory load. Andy

I shot a buffalo in June with the new Hornady interbond, and it was not a very impressive performer. It was a 500 grain from a .458 Lott, but it totally came apart. Nothing to recover. Now, that being said, I can't complain too much as the bull was down for good in 80 yards with no follow-up needed, but I was surprised that the bullet came apart.
