Where can I find the South Africa/Namibian style braai in the USA? I like to cook and have a perfect place for a built in braai. Where to find in the US?

Are you asking where you can find food items like boerewoers and pap to braai yourself? Or are you asking how to build a fire pit so you can host a braai? If so send me a PM and I can give you some help.

http://www.taste-africa.com/product_potjie.php We used to have a Afrikaaner bloke in Arizona that had a big South African store. Pots, tents, campers, the whole lot. Nice stuff. I can't find him or his replacement.

Any self-respecting South African makes his braai by cutting a 55-gallon drum in half lengthwise! Weld some legs on and put a screen mesh on top and you're there. It's kind of a point of etiquette to design and make your own, like you would with a light-saber. Some folks make them from brick and cement too, but I like to be able to move mine.(I made mine from a bus's wheel rim as the base and the brake drum for the fire pit part.

You have a good memory, BWW. If it's the same store I know about, it was in Tucson and open for less than a year in the mid-1990s. Bill Quimby

RX - I am looking for the grill device it self, the built in wall unit that I can install in my outdoor kitchen. I am looking for a seller in the USA

I saw that catalog on my last move. I finally through it away. Had a stack of outdoor catalogs that I'd had forever, it was one of them. Neat stuff. Too bad nobody is doing anything like that anymore. He had tents, braais, poike, and some really cool camping gear. We don't have the same level of camping gear in America like they do in South Africa or Australia for truck camping.

Dogcat Reach out to Safari Lawyer - he has the nicest outdoor kitchen setup. If you are getting someone to build you you can copy some design off the web. I did not see anything special equipment wise in SA and Zim - coal and wood grills. I like this - its expensive but seems like fun if you like cooking with wood. http://www.grillery.com/ Mike

This is the only builtin one that I remember. Most were open ones like these. DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

I'd really like a big stone and thatch place to hang out at night. Run the Hatari sound track and have a few Tuskers. Tuskers were $1 each in Djibouti at Camp Lemonier. By the fourth or fifth one, every girl on base was Maureen O'Hara at 25.

Ross when you buy this contraption can you make a video explaining how the heck it works. They had a strange BBQ like this in Namibia but by the time they had it fired up good I was normally so damn tired I just wanted to go to bed.
