I was listening to the morning talk radio show on the way to work, and being that the host is a hunter, many discussions have to do with subsistance, environmental wackos, et al. Anyhow, a caller this morning mentioned coming across a women at the airport that couldn't understand how he could kill an "innocent" animal. He asked if she ate meat, and she said yes, she gets it from the supermarket. He said, well someone had to kill it, and she said yes, but it is more humane. His response was, "The difference between you and me is, I am a predator, you are a scavenger" One of the best responses I've heard, had to share it.

Oh, I love that responce! Some years back, a co-worker and a few of us were eating home-made jerky, of which she ate plenty of, when she began to blabber on about why folks up here shoot caribou (I assume because we can buy beef in the store). Other then explaining why, we decided not to tell he she was eating caribou jerky. ~~~Suluuq

Suluuq, The caller was from Eklutna. He also called in to let the tree huggers know that they were going to be cutting down some trees in their village. If a tree hugger wanted to adopt a tree, they would gladly allow them to for $100. In Anchorage they are clearing some trees to build some ball and soccer fields for the kids to play in. The tree huggers have been fighting this tooth and nail, even naming the trees. The caller had some other good lines, such as, these white people are so crazy, if they don't like the Alaskan lifestyle, they should get the hell out. I'm afraid that the downside of modern life is that living in Alaska is quite easy and comfortable. In the past life was hard, and the week whiny folks would simply leave, or succumb to the forces of nature.
