We all enjoy elephants, right? Whether we are hunting them or simply observing them. That is why I think we should pay homage to these mighty creatures by posting the very best elephant pictures we have. I will start the ball rolling, I know some of you have got some fantastic ele pictures so don't be shy to contribute. Sorry some mine are a bit stale, I'll be getting some new ones pretty soon...

Huh? As opposed to our worst pictures? Is it a new Zim law that we must post elephant pics? Smiler

Even if it is the authorities don't know how to use the internet yet so no worries...

Just post yours Will - worst or best. Enter into the spirit of things my friend. With all the crap I've been reading on here lately, I thought we should get back to the good old days. What better place to start than elephants. You can post your best dead elephant pictures if you wish, and then so will I.

Will, why so cross? Don't you have any photos of live elephants? Cool

Here's one:

Those are some neat pictures and I look forward to more.

Here's a few from Botswana:
Nice young bull at the fringes of the Okavango. Like to see him in 10-20 years.

Little more typical of the cover where we saw most elephants.

The one I really wanted picture of here has just turned, and is almost undiscernable heading off to the left - just had one tusk, but that one tusk was fairly long and very heavy. Lee said it would go at least 70 lbs.

Another 70 pounder according to the trackers - they weren't talking about the ivory.

These pictures are not too impressive compared to many I've seen, but they bring back memories of a first elephant hunt and mean quite a bit to me...

Best,
Emory

A definite positive contribution. Things were getting a bit weird around here. Elephants are always cool.

Great pictures! I have seen at least a thousand elephants over the past few years and have never seen any with really large tusks.

Here are a couple I've seen.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Very nice pictures guys! thumb

That Tsavo bull is something else. If I ever saw that bull looking at me like that, I will give him my wallet and retreat carefully.

Brett,
Ahmed lived in the north of Kenya at Marsabit Nat Park and died quite a while ago.
This one is at Tsavo West Nat park and was photoed about about four years ago.
Felt a little vulnerable sitting in the Toyota RAV at the time.
PS; If I was allowed to hunt Leopard anywhere, it would be in the hills behind the Ele (The Ngulia hills just upstream of the Tsavo bridge).
