I've never fired a Winchester big bore rifle, but my dad's RSM Rigby is a sweeeeet shooter. My vote goes for the RSM in 416 Rigby. _____________________________________________________ No safe queens!

1100 rounds through my late model M70 .375 with no extractor failure. After about 1000 rounds, the follower spring went limp so I replaced it with a Wolff. Otherwise, no problems, and MOA accuracy.

Over 1000 rounds through my M70 416 Rem Mag. without a problem. When I do my part 3 shot groups touching each other is normal. Jim "Bwana Umfundi" NRA

I have owned a M70 pushfeed, a M70 CRF, a Ruger Mk I and a Ruger RSM (.375H&H). None of the above rifles offered benchrest accuracy, but I found the RSM was the the most accurate (1 to 1 1/2" groups) and the most consistent (same groups every time). Thus I voted for the Ruger RSM in 416 Rigby. The above experience is limited and not representitive of the best either maker has to offer, but it is all I have to go on.

The rem is a high pressure cartridge, basically a necked up 375 H&H; not ideal in hot conditions; factory ammo generally give 2250 with 400 gr bullets, extraction difficulties at higher velocities. the rigby functions at much lower pressures, easy extraction, and can be loaded up to 416 wby velocities (totally unnecessary, but can be done)

I voted the Winny 416 'cos that's what I've got and it's great. Cheers, Mark.

More repetative BS about the 416Rem. No known failure in a factory or true custom CRF gun, gunsmith rebarrels not included. Same pressure as 375HH w/ slightly less case taper. As Ray A has said, "you don't think it gets hot in Texas?". I leave it in the sun and shoot it. Last bad summer here it was 113 F. West Texas even worse, like NM and AZ too. The rifle in question that failed during the Zim PH proficiency testing was a Rem M700 push feed gun. Robertson recounts this in his last book. I don't recall the actual rifle being mentioned in the African Hunter article. To say that the 375HH, 458WM & Lott and any/all other high pressure rounds are excluded from potential failure but the 416Rem is not is pure folly. I'd venture a few Weatherbys have made it back from Africa as well. Time to let it die.

I decided on the Model 70 due to handling and fit. I researched the various issues on the Rigby vs. Rem Mag cartridge and could not find a reason to differentiate them. Thanks for the advise and help.
