For those of you who have used trail cameras on leopard baits, which brands/models are the most "idiot proof"?

I gave Nixon a Cuddie Back when i was there. I am not sure he has used it. At that time he did not trust it to not scare the cats.

I have used the same one on deer and it works great and is easy to use. The pocket camera that i have uses the same SD card. That makes it easy to check the pictures when in the field.

We use 6 of the Cuddeback Capture IR with great results.

There's not a huge amount of difference in the major brands these days, so I'd find a model that made sense for SBT along the following lines:

Size and weight since you're carrying it over

Memory Card that matches your camera

Batteries life and batteries that you can carry alot of or get them readily in Africa

Ease of use.

In my opinion most are all fairly easy to use, and I've used quite a few.

I brought over a couple of the Moultrie Game Spy M-100 mini cameras in August. I just saw it online for $120 or so on sale. I liked this model because it was small and I was able to fit a few in my luggage. 6 megapixel and infrared flash. Also a small viewing screen to check the photos without having to take out the card.

They have a model thats a little less expensive, but its 5 megapixel and there's no viewing screen.

Karl Stumpfe asked me to pick up a couple for him. He already had a Bushnell model so I got the same for familiarity's sake. We used them with great success a few weeks ago - two of the few dozen taken are in my hunt report.

My deer guy has the same in the snowy woods of the Allegheny mountains and has been happy with the results there as well on whitetails.

I've not used trail cams for Leopard as I've never hunted for leopard. However, I do use them for pre-season elk hunting here in Arizona.

I have a Reconyx which is without a doubt one of the more expensive cameras on the market. However it comes with one of if not the best security systems. Since the camera is being placed on public ground and I've known many of people to have there cameras stolen and/or vandalized, this is important.

But that said, the camera is quite intuitive to use and takes excellent pictures both day and night. The only drawback is that it doesn't have a viewing screen on the camera and thus you need to download the pics to your computer or other camera to view them.

Primos Truth Cam 60 is a good camera at a great price point for Leopard over bait. These work well and take great pictures. They are very easy to operate and have an intuitive menu. The camera can shoot high resolution and has 60 infrared LEDs. The pictures will display the time, date, moon phase, and temperature. Great battery life too. The Blackout model captures photos without making noise or visible LED light. Probably some other great brands out there to consider as well.

Scott I HAVE USED THEM A LOT AND FIND THAT SOME CATS ARE SCARED OF THE IR CAMERAS , WHERE AS I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAT RUN FROM A CAMERA THAT HAS A FLASH .. I FIND THE MOLTREE VERY EASY TO USE ALTHOUGH THE OLDER MODELS ARE A BIT BIG ,,

Not sure, just seen them on the blister packs, haven't researched them.

I have used the cuddie back but the advent of the smaller cameras is in my opinion the big advantage. A notebook to view the SDcards is important or laptop. The little viewers is not enough. One can use a cameras that accepts SD cards. Make sure you purchase plain SD and not some of the special HD ones, they may not work.
