On September 9 2015 Leon duPlessis was shot through the ankle by a client.
. A picture revealed a grizzly wound. We think it is a graphic photo so have not posted it (it is on the forum however - please note we do not know if the man pictured in our FB post is HIM, it is the image that comes up from that website - if I recall correctly Leon is somewhat younger! )
Perhaps Leon will not only think about what a lucky escape he had, but about how painful HIS bullets are to animals. see here to read more (and see more ) see here: (click link) -( Thanks Richard for alerting us)

Other than moving the thread to make that URL invalid, there isn't much we can do.
George
Spoke to Leon and sent him the link.
He is bored and wanted the link. He said "I need some entertainment"

Best wishes for a full and complete recovery.
Please be safe out there, one and all.

This to be called another accident. The gun pointed itself at this gentleman and went off all by itself.
Oh, the shooter feels sorry, absolutely; the all do. Look at our last hero. Mr. TV Star. That victim is still suffering. Was the chance at this animal worth the pain and damage inflicted. The shooter should be arrested and tried.
Oh, as always there shall be great proclamations of sorrow, remorse and the promise to always help. See how long that lasts.
Never point a bloody gun at anything you do not wish to shoot. Accidents of this nature do not happen. It is the greedy moron who pulls the trigger. An accident is when the sear breaks and the bullet flys off into space and no one is hurt
The shooter is nothing but a greedy jerk with no conception of gun safety. That is unless the victim ran in front of the gun as our Elmer Fudd was pulling the trigger.
There is no excuse for improper gun safety! It is not an accident, it is an unintentional criminal act. One is guilty of a crime through an act of omission or commission.
Let the Courts settle this but it still will NEVER EVER make this poor gentleman whole again or recoup his losses.
It makes no difference if the shooter is Dr. Spock or one of the Bros from Ferguson, it was a dangerous stupid greedy unsafe act!

MJinesGlenn is no Trax for sure. I think he obviously feels passionately about this and got wound up. That said, put me in the camp that believes with guns, cars, airplanes, ladders, hammers, electricity, etc. sometimes accidents happen. Does that excuse them, no, does it mean we should redouble our efforts to be careful, sure. But to suggest that the acts are greedy (whatever that means) or criminal is just not fair in my view.

If we don't hunt and don't own guns and don't go to africa there is a very low chance of ad shooting.
The question for client hunters is what do we do to greatly minimize risk of ad shooting.
Start with a culture of gun safety that is sorely lacking in African hunting and in us gun ownership.
Choose equipment correctly - that new cocker gun like the blaser, k - gun double, mauser 03 have some additional merit
Practice big bore shooting at school in the us
Allow ph on some follow up to dispatch the wounded animal
Talk gun safety with PH - everyone goes first day in camp and sights in rifle. Why not talk gun and hunting safety for 30 min.

You are quite correct Mike...even Trax doesn't go so far as to want a criminal indictment over an accident.

Beretta682EUpdate from Leon and Judy DuPlessis
Firstly, they want to thank everyone on AR for their well wishes and get well messages - "we really appreciate all the support from the AR community."
Secondly, Leon will still be in the hospital for another 3 weeks to have skin grafts done and start physio and the road to getting the foot working again.
From me
The long road to getting. Still a miracle that no bone was damaged.
All wrapped up for now
I look forward to drinking with him in Dallas and maybe Vegas at the shows. And hunting with Leon next year. Maybe I will be his driver and lackey around the Save if I get some slow time next year. Won't be his appie - he makes them work too damn hard.

GOBSir,
You will probably now receive hate mail for having the tamarity to say unsafe gun handling.
It was some mystical force that guided that gun to shoot this poor gentleman who still remains in Hospital suffering as he will suffer for the remainder of his life. While the trigger mans proclaims it was an accident, never anything unsafe there. No just an accident!
You never point a gun at anything you do not want to shoot! Then there is no accident.
Interesting that a lot of wonderful folks are upset with anyone who mentions stupid unsafe gun handling. Yet I just wonder how many victims of these "accidents" they have seen or investigated? I can tell you one thing there is not one shooter who does not wail accident shedding long tears and walk away while lives are destroyed, folks in the urn but what the hell it was an accident. Never a stupid unsafe act of pointing a gun in an unsafe direction.
Never met a shooter in those circumstances that proclaimed they got up in the morning and decided to shoot someone. It is always the result of some stupid unsafe act of pointing a gun at the victim.
Only one time have we observed a sear break and that was on a very very expenstpive toy. The operator of the gun although shooting had the gun pointing in a safe direction which resulted in switching guns and making a new sear overnight.

Precisely why it would be wrong to use the 'criminal' justice system against them.

Sir,
While I agree with most of what you say...2 wrongs don't make a right. Leave these cases to civil law and up to the victim as to whether to pursue. And if you don't think I have the experience to speak on the subject...I will post up the X-rays of the slug lodged in my 3rd cervical vertebrae.

We have been away and do not know if the Gentleman (hopefully by the shooter) is being looked after properly. There is no free lunch for any white person hurt there. Is there a way to donate funds to help with his care?

Beretta682EAn update
Leon is back in Jo-Burg. He had gone back to Zim for a few day.
His foot and skin graft had a infection. They did surgery again and in surgery his BP collapsed. He was in ICU for a day and is back in regular care.
Back to having the wound open with a vacuum pump.
Tough guy will make it thru but the road to getting back from a 375 H&H barnes tsx thru ones ankle is not easy.
I will not post more gruesome pictures of the open wound. But we all should always have gun safety in our minds as hunting season starts in the US.
Mike

GOBThank you sir for keeping us posted. No one deserves this to happen to them.
Oh, it was just an accident, tell that to the victim and the Family.
How is the trigger man holding up? Was he there to support this poor lad.
Please convey to your friend we understand his pain ad please please retain a good Lawyer and to bring action here in the USA. there are a couple great Attorneys on this site who may guide your friend. This is not going to get better in the near future. We all wish we could push a button and the pain and hurt, the suffering, lost wages, the entire list would go away. Sadly it is very difficult to make the pain go away and put food on the table by saying SORRY, IT WAS AN ACCIDET.
unsafe gun handling is not an accident! Perhaps not criminal in your baliewick but in many it is indeed criminal.
Sorry to offend anyone but that is my opinion.
