I have some for a 375. What are the Encapsulated Solids? Why are they bad?

I think that they are bad bullets. I gave a box of Hornady 458 lott to Clinton Rodgers of Tshabezi Safari's he used the entire box on Elephant and on a couple of wounded buffalo. He said they must be bad because they just whistled Through everything that he shot with them. Never could recover one .. Go figger. If you own a gun and you are not a member of the NRA and other pro 2nd amendment organizations then YOU are part of the problem.

Els, His Dad must have made him buy his own rifle and no more "madam" for Clinton... You should have given him sone of those expanding solids for buf and keep the solids for eles... Mike

I happen to have been shooting some while testing my .416 Rigby. All bullets are 400 grain. Loaded to 2400 + - . These were all shot into a target for accuracy as well as to see how tough they are. The bank is made up of rocky slate, sand and rock. An old rock/gravel quarry. I shot them all at 60 paces and move the target to be sure each bullet was hitting the same kind of surface. From the photos you will see that the Barnes stayed the straightest although it did not penetrate as deeply one of the encapsulated. I know one round is by no means a telling tale but I felt that the encapsulated (around 5 inches deeper) also would have caused the most damage as the core flared open to one inch frontal. Note that the FMJ nearly all lost their core forward and one core either turned and went straight up or went so deep I quit digging past 3 feet. Most of the rounds ended up around 12 to 15 inches except for the one encapsulated. Not a very scientific test but certainly tells me I will stick with the Barnes for my Buff hunt.

Can you give us a couple of examples of the failures and do you have any pictures of the recovered bullets? 465H&H

Most of the ammo seen has been in .458 Lott. We had one candidate on the proficiency exam in 2006 that failed to stop a chage when the bullet from his Lott stopped on a tusk base. Had two others on last years exam fail on the Zygomatic arch on side brain shot. I will email you the Photo's and you can post them!

Here are the pics that Don Heath asked me to post. Sorry! I forgot to add Don's comment. "This was a Horniday .375- stopped in the nerve !" 465H&H
