Tanzania: Elephant Frightens U.S. Film Star
By Marc Nkwame, 29 July 2013

Arusha — THE world's most popular Television Talkshow queen, Oprah Winfrey, was accosted by a giant Jumbo while touring the Serengeti, Tanzania's second largest National Park.

Oprah Winfrey, who spent an entire week in the 'Endless Plains,' has just posted a video of the 'elephant encounter' on her Facebook page. This is the first time that the doyenne of pop-culture has opened up about her private trip in Tanzania.

The video, named 'A too close encounter with an Elephant,' shows a large jumbo leaving its herd and menacingly following the open Land Rover safari truck in which the talk show queen and film star was riding and hooting at the car rather dangerously.

The vehicle driver quickly started the engine in an attempt to scare away the advancing jumbo, but apparently the move irked the elephant which took a few steps back in the usual preparation for an attack. At this point the driver had to reverse in a hurry.

The jumbo, after a few further menacing advances towards the group in the car, gave up the chase and returned back to its herd. It looked like the elephant simply wanted the humans to leave the herd in peace. The video also caught Oprah saying that she was indeed 'Very scared.'

Whether this close shave with death will feature in her future films or Television documentaries is yet to be known. Oprah Winfrey's visit to Serengeti, which ended last week, was strictly done in private with the Television personality refusing to meet the press or anybody for that matter, despite a number of media outlets from especially Kenya camping in the park, hoping to be granted an interview.

Ever since she debuted in the 1985 film, 'Color Purple' Oprah has starred in 28 other movies in addition to producing several Television Documentaries and publishing three books.

Whether we should expect her next film or TV documentary to be filmed in Serengeti is yet to be seen but the country's popular Park, home to the legendary migration of more than two million wildebeests and Zebras, the queen may be interested to capture a bit of the spectacular show.

Winfrey has remained the only African American to rank among America's 400 richest people nearly every year since 1995. With a net worth of US $800 million, Winfrey is believed to be the richest African American of the 20th century.

She has also won and has been nominated for various outstanding awards including the 'Academy Awards,' 'Emmy awards,' 'Golden Globe Award,' 'PGA Awards' and got named as best talk show presenter and host several times.

She is also generous because in 2004, Winfrey became the first black person to rank among the 50 most generous Americans and she remained among the top 50 until 2010. By 2012 she had given away about US $400 million to educational causes.

I though that an elephant hooting dangerously at her, she should have called a cop.

What does it think this is? Africa? Smiler

The locals were laughing, probably not too much danger. Maybe Ivan can watch the short clip and give an honest evaluation of the "danger".
