They always have snacks and drinks for the volunteers, I suspect they will provide airfare, hotels and meals for “key” volunteers as no one in Atlanta will have the slightest idea what a DSC convention should look like and operate. Problem is, who would decide which volunteer is a “key” volunteer? Going to upset some long time volunteers is some are helped with expenses and others not. Same thing with board members, out to pay their own way.
A friend outside of Atlanta sent me a message last night talking about the neighborhood surrounding the center and sent a link to a website:

Doesn’t look to good in some important areas…
Maybe that’s why promotional videos emphasize security?

I asked the Atlanta convention chair, and board director this very question…his answer was that DSC “was going to roll out the red carpet for volunteers”. I’ll bet.

I am wondering about DSC. I called yesterday and asked who to talk about donating a nice custom, new rifle. The operator said she would transfer to the right person. No answer. She came back and said she would have them call. I said that all I need was a time and place to drop it off.
She said she would have someone call.
It has been two days and no call.....

The donation is not huge - $5000 or so- but I thought I would get a call back.

They are missing the boat badly at this point from what I can tell....

Larry - do you know someone at SCi that may want this rifle????

Doesn’t surprise me at all about DSC. Larry knows many, more people at SCI than I, but if you would be interested in giving to a brand new chapter I can hook you up for their first SCI fundraiser.

PS…this group was the first DSC chapter and left a couple of years ago due to lack of engagement from mothership. Applied for SCI Chapter and were approved earlier this month.

Both shocking from an organization that was seeming to thrive in it's successes!!
Well, looks like they have gone full circle now.... I remember the break-off in the 80s of Dallas and Houston... it was ugly and tumultuous!!
It's all about leadership!!... SCI in now thriving again after years of foundering!floundering!!

Ross, if you have some heartburn about donating to National SCI, maybe you should consider the great little museum in Lewiston, ID:
THE JACK O'CONNOR HERITAGE CENTER and MUSEUM.
They are celebrating the famous outdoor writer and Editor of OUTDOOR LIFE for decades. They display all of his trophies, some guns and his books. Doing a great job educating kids, and getting many interested in hunting. They have an annual fundraising event with a little gunshow, and outdoor writers forum. Always well attended. Al and Roger Biesen built some fantastic special custom rifles for the Center... raffled. I would suggest your rifle would be raffled vs auctioned... say 500 tickets at $20... that's $10,000 bucks!!

Finally got a call from DSC, too late. Already shipped the donation to SCI Lubbock chapter.
Not sure what has happened at DSC.

In my experience, whenever an organization's overall performance has dropped off - it usually a crisis in the leadership. Leaders lead and set the tone and expectation for any organization.

When leadership loses vision or does not act, the rank and file flounder....
