Buff with what other animal
I am looking down the road a couple of years and want to book a Buffalo and something else hunt. I would really like a hippo but alot of people have told me to do a hippo/croc and a buff/leopard but not a buff/hippo. Just wanting thoughts and opinions. Buff is first choice, hippo second and leopard third. Really no desire for a croc at this point in my life. Any input or suggestions would be appreciated.

How about a tuskless cow with the buff if you want an exiting hunt.

Did a sable w/ mine. Worked 9 long days after that 38" sable--but it was WELL worth the walk abouts!!!!!!

Don't see why not to do a buff/hippo hunt, especially in the Zambezi valley.

If you like Buff and Hippo, You should do them. Then with all that meat you can then concentrate on Leopard and Hyena.

Any reason why not a buff/hippo? Hell, that's what my son is doing, in August, while I'm doing the buff/tuskless ele thingy. If ya want a hippo with the buff, go for it! After all, it IS your money.... Wink Big Grin

Several of the Zambezi Valley operators can organize Buff, hippo, and crock. Here's one: http://www.chifutisafaris.com/...C%20AND%20HIP%20.pdf

Little Joe,

A buff/leopard/hippo/croc plus other plains game can be organized easily as one safari or a less ambitious combination of any of these can be arranged on the Luangwa river in Zambia.

Even a short 7 or 10 day safari will net you a buff/hippo and croc. A leopard will require a 14 day booking but is nearly a slam dunk on the Luangwa.

We work with two excellent operators on the Luangwa and if you'd like some further info please contact me anytime.

I'd go with buff and leopard. Unless you find a cooperative hippo on the land, the leopard hunt will likely be more fun, especially if you go to a good area with relatively uneducated cats.

Thinking outside the box, it would also be fun to combine buff and roan. Since Andrew Baldry's property in the Luangwa is private (but unfenced), you can do that hunt without incurring the hefty classic license fee required for hunting roan in a GMA.

Buff/Hippo/Leopard/Hyena. Fourteen days, and plenty of meat to hang for the cat & dog.

JMHO...

Add bull elephant and make it 21 days and you'll have my July trip pretty much summed up. Nicely done, Rich.

I appreciate the comments. My biggest issue is time away from work. 10 days I can work with, 12 is a stretch and at this time 14 days is almost impossible. Just cannot leave my guys alone that long; at least right now. One of the biggest reasons I am leary on a leopard at this time. I would appreciate suggestions of who to go with as well. I have a couple of people I have talked too and just trying to find the best option.

You can do your Buff/Hippo in 10 days with no problem. Check out Martin Pieters www.martinpieterssafaris.com. He hunts the Omay in the Zambezi Valley.

Hippo and Croc in Zambia usually can be done with just trophy fee. No need to add days or pay higher day rate.

Ask the outfitter if there is the possibility of an up grade Leopard option? Some may have left over quota end of season and whilst this is not the best time for leopard the optional upgrade could save you money in the long run.

Alternatively book a hunt that follows a Lion hunt and the PH will have had Leopard interested in the baits and could continue with the baiting process.

Use dogs and the success rates are very high. Just not my cup of tea.

If you have any intentions of ever taking a Leopard, it would be my top priority. Anti-hunters are losing sleep over how to stop all Leopard hunting and if the USF&W ever gets big cats on CITES I, bye bye Leopard, Lion and all the rest. Buffalo will be here, nobody is thinking about the big black cow. Mbogo is safe...for a while.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
