Gentlemen,

Well, it finally happened, and Walter managed to do a sort of "solo safari". Without the assisstance of a PH.

I was lumped with Roy as being obsolete, and no longer required on a hunt, but after careful thought, my position was re-instated.

As most of you know, Walter has a heart problem, and cannot run or walk very far. So we try to find what I have been calling "half dead" animals for him to shoot.

As you can imagine, he was never impressed with my description of his game animals.

We were driving along, when we saw this large warthog walking in the bush. We stopped the truck, and tried to get Walter to disembark from his very comfortable seat on the back of the truck.

By the time his lordship managed to get down and get his rifle handed to him, the pig has disappeared.

Roy walked with Walter up a small rise, hoping to see the warthog, and I was tagging along with my rifle in hand.

We walked a few yards, and saw no sign of the warthog. Walter decided that he would return to the truck, and suggested that I go after the warthog.

There was a hill just ahead of us, and we thought the warthog went around it. We ran after him.

As we got to the other side of the hill, we heard a shot coming from where we had left Walter.

When we got back to him, we saw him standing next to a dead warthog.

Apparently, the warthog found himself a hiding place, and as we passed by him, he backtracked to run straight into Walter, who happeily put an end to him.

Walter: "Roy, why are you trying to make me tired by running up the hill when the warthog was hiding right next to me?"

Roy: "I did not know that the warthog was hiding next to you."

Walter: "This is all a conspiracy between you and Saeed. You two do not want me to shoot anything, as you both know I am a better shot than either of you! Anyway, I do not need you or Saeed to go and hunt. I can do all this all by myself. And here is the proof."

Me: "So you want to carry your warthog and walk back to camp now. You do not need any of us any more, so we are going hunting. See you back in camp."

Walter: "Wait! Wait! I don't need him! (pointing to Roy) I need you. You are my friend. It is one of the requirements of going on a solo safari to have a friend to take you there in the first place"

Bobby,

Walter seems to love his, and we met a Swedish Gentleman in Zimbabwe who had one too and he liked it.

Personally, I would not want to hunt with one of them at all. I have been using a standard bolt action all my life, and I might be either too dump to learn how to operate this new rifle, or too lazy to at least try.

Oh, and I do not like the shape of that stock either.

Sorry to be negative about this rifle, but again, this is my own personal opinion. So if you like it, I really see no reason not to hunt with it.

Well I happen to be enamoured with the Blaser R93, of which I own 2 (BTW, I also love classic bolt actions and own several). Most of my hunting being drive hunts, I'm used to shoot running game and have become rather proficient in rifle handling. No matter how fast you are in working a bolt rifle from the shoulder, the straight-pull wins every time (I once put 3 shots into a (real) big Wild Boar before he found time to roll over). Also the accuracy of the R93 is amazing, .5 to .75 MOA being the norm. While I normally shoot a FN o/u rifle in 9,3x74R (NB.: in fair weather...), I resort to my synthetic stocked R93 when conditions are too harsh to expose the exquisite wood of my double rifle. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't buy a double rifle again as the R93 serves as well.

Andr,

I agree with you. The R93 is simply fantastic and the best there is when it comes to wild boar driven hunts.
To Africa I have only taken the synthetic stocked R93 and it has proved superbly.

I think Saeed would change his mind regarding the straight-pull if only Walter lets him use his Blaser at least once!

Great story Saeed. Reminds me of that saying that goes something like "even a blind pig will find the occasional acorn".

(No offence intended, Walter. )

LOL, Canuck

Now you all just have to admit that is one very happy, beaming Walter.
Congratulations all it sounds like just the type of relaxation along with a great mix of friends needed to recharge the human spirit.

Nice picture of you, Roy, and Walter.

But who's the feller holding the gun?

Sorry, too easy to pass up!

friends,

be cautious to praise the R93 in this forums. I did so recently and earned really hate mails. Sad that such things happen in this otherwise phantastic forums.

Is that really a left-handed Blaser or did you just post in reversed?

I would think Walter can get away with using the Blaser as long as the photos continue to show he is using a Leupold scope.

Also, was the shorter tusk broken or worn down...if worn, a perfect example of the warthog being right or left-tusked.

Final thought! Looks like you are the only one with his head "on straight".

Mac,

We let the Walterhog hold the rifle for the picture. After he had his bath with the stinking trophy heads, he smelled much worse than a real warthog!

DB Bill,

This is a left hand R-93. You see, Walter is one of those 10-15% of normal humans who have been rejected for being left handed. So he uses a left handed rifle.

His pig must have been one of those too, as his left tusk was worn down quite a bit.

Saeed,

You, Walter & Roy looks a perfect company, one would love to enjoy hunting with. I enjoy reading every bit of events you post about your African hunting adventures and dream that one day I too will enjoy meeting you people. Such are the joyful events one remember for life other then the hunting itself and which cherish the memories and make you smile while thinking about them.

Saeed: Your story makes me laugh so hard it hurts! That does look like a big worthog and Walter looks pleased. How could Walter think there was a conspiracy to make him walk up a hill to hunt when the animal is near the truck? Your stories make me laugh!

Rwj,

Walter does not trust anyone of us any more, especially after we had him crawl on his hands and knees to stalk a zebra blanket and shoot it!

Just to much, you have to much time on your hands. So you like to play pranks on your friends. I love it. The idea of getting your friend to shoot a rug thats just great. One of these days I should come by and hang out for a while.

George,

You're welcome any time my friend.

No one here seems to spare any one else from their pranks.

Saeed- seeing Walter with his gray hair has me wondering, how was he in the Walter and the T-Rex video? Either he has aged quickly or that's an older video. Of course with y'all slipping loaded cartridges into his trigger tuning rifles, I guess he has earned the gray hair honestly!!!!

i can't believe you guys sometimes :-)

I really enjoyed the video this year..

Mike,
Different Walter fired the gun. The "real" Walter is too smart to get caught on tape abusing himself. He did step in to assist the younger other walter who was rubbing his shoulder while one of Saeed's cousins cackled in the background. Must be a hereditary thing, that laugh.

Actually Walter is Elvis in disguise. Long live the King! Yes, he slimmed down and grew a beard. He does a great German accent too. He still can't stay away from the Wimpy burger franchises too long however. He has been spotted in Botswana several times.

Elvis grew tired of celebrity and retired to Dubai to play with Saeed. Yes, Walter is Elvis.
