Luke Samaras is an outfitter that is being recommened for a hunt that I am planning by a booking agent. Does anyone here have any experience with him? It will be mainly for a dg hunt in the Selous. Any info would be appr.

Same questions goes for Jamy Traut.

Thanks,
Bob

Without a doubt, Samaras is one of the most experienced PHS in the Selous. There are books and videos about him. MUFASA

Luke has been hunting Africa I think at least 30 years and maybe more, as a successful PH and hunting company..

Samaras is one of the few operations I don't EVER remember hearing anything bad about.

Hi bob

If you mean Jamie Traute from Namibia, he is a solid PH. He runs Eden, one of the best PG (limited DG) venues in Namibia. They also have a Bushmanland conseccion/ conservancy, mainly for elephnat and cats, but timing is everything for the elephant. He will advise you of the best times for his area. You will not make a mistake with him.

I know one of Luke's PH's named Piet Fourie very well. I hunt with Piet each year in RSA before he goes up to Tanzania for Luke. Piet will be in Reno, so stop and see him.

You could look a long time without finding a better DG PH than Luke Samaras!

I'd say he's been hunting in Africa considerably longer than 30 yrs! Luke was around in the 60s, and a well known Elephant hunter, even then! beer

Does Luke have an active website? The only one I've seen (http://www.samarassafaris.com/) hasn't been updated in years.

Thanks for all the responses. After doing another search(I must of typed it wrong the first time) I came up with lots of info. all good. Went ahead and told Keith Atcheson to book me for 2009 for a 30 day full bag with Luke. I am sure I will have lots of questions for you. Thanks again.

Thanks,
Bob

I have a good friend (Nigel Theisen) who is a PH for Luke. If he were not a good fellow, Nigel would not work for him. Don't know Luke personally but Nigel is a first rate guy. I can ask Nigel about Traut if you like.
