Erik JensenThe Blaser R93 is actually a nice and very accurate gun, in the small and medium bore calibers. For most normal shooters it is in fact a lot faster to handle than a mauser action.
The straight pull system that the R93 use, is really very old. The first rifle with this system came in the beginning of the last century, as the Lee Naval Straight pull - and if I remember correct it was chamber for 280 cal. (because the system could not handle a full size load). The service time of the Straight Pull rifle was a short one, bacuse the system simply worked to bad under real life conditions. (From the book Military Small Arms - I can post the full story if anybody wants it).
The above mentioned problems is the same as the R93 rifle has today. The systems work very well as long as it is kept clean (and most hunters do so), and the rounds are not loaded to a too high pressure.

Ulrik HentzerErik,
I do not agree that the R-93 is a nice rifle. It is ugly in my opinion. In fact I would not take one even if it was given to me.. I prefer CRF bolt actions any day - even in small and medium bore calibers.

Erik JensenUlrik,
Well, I would not do so either - but I simply tried to keep this as objektive as possible, and base my comments on facts. If I were given a R93 for free in one of the smaller calibers I would be glad to have it. But for the price they cost I would take a winchester or sako instead.

The XO concurs my friend has R93 in 8X68s with a kick stop in it and it is so poorly constructed and unpleasant to shoot. I would not own one either, even if I got it for free. Life is too short for strange looking poorly constructed guns with bad recoil handling.
And I am use to shooting the 375 H&H in a old pre-64 and a .500 Jeffery.
Look they even made it worse and wasted some gunsmiths time doing it.
I thought Elvis was dead

My My you are a sensitive little troll aren't you.

As for Remington, I agree that they are an unsafe piece of crap
Here we go again. I'm afraid we don't agree on Remington either. No doubt their quality is headed down hill but they have made some excellent rifles in the past. You are showing your ignorance with a statement like that. Unsafe? Not for normal people who don't point guns at others. I suppose you blame automobile manufacturers for wrecks caused by drunk drivers? Got any pictures?

surestrikeWell guys I didn't know that there was this emoition floating around on this subject....
So just calm things down a bit lets all talk about the R-93 chambered in .45-70 as a DG alternative...!!!!

Just kidding boys.......
I'll be sticking with my .375 or my .458Lott both M-70's or my Searcy .470NE for serious work.
I don't use a push feed on DG, in anycase the original question didn't mention DG but rather friendly little high altitude grass munchers.
And I do sincerely thank you all for your input.
