Hello, A quick question on shipping bullets with you to Africa. Do the bullets have to be in factory boxes? My dad is shooting his .338 and hasn't bought factory bullets for years. Can he ship his reloads in the plastic midway boxes? Will this be a problem. Thanks, Northway

When last I read the NTSA guidelines it wasn't an issue, but FOREIGN Airlines may pitch a bitch. Member NRA, SCI- Life #358 28+ years now! DRSS, double owner-shooter since 1983, O/U .30-06 Browning Continental set.

Get to a computer and a vacuum packer and when you have ammo boxed tape on printed labels of ammo caliber and bullet weight...Vacuum pack and they look very prim and proper...Have done this and no problems at all...Make sure ammo boxes are the clear type and not solid color... Mike

You don't need the factory boxes. I took mine in plastic boxes from casegard. I believe the regulation is that they must be packaged in a container that separates the rounds. This is accomplished by most all plastic boxes. Throwing them in a ziplock won't get the job done!!! I labeled my boxes with my name, and the cartridge name and taped them together in a cardboard box and again taped that close.. No problem was incurred.....as a matter of fact no one ever asked to see them....they just asked what I had and didn't even weigh them. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." There are no regulations that it has to be in factory box, howsomever not all airlines employees know a hoot in hades about their own rules. I ran into this once. Now I follow Retreever's method. Although cartridge selection is important there is nothing that will substitute for proper first shot placement. Good hunting, "D"

Northway, I hope you have as good a time as we did our first time. I will wager that you will be getting on the plane to come home considering what you will have to sell or do to get to go back. I am somewhat envious. You only get one... First trip to Africa! Although cartridge selection is important there is nothing that will substitute for proper first shot placement. I took Tery Carr's advice. I went to the airline's website and downloaded their own rules as well as TSA's. I keep a printed copy with me so I can stick it where the sun doesn't shine of moronic counter employees. Do you know that according to the regs you can pack your ammo in the same case as your rifle? jorge USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

D Hunter, Thanks! I am very excited. I get to kill everything in Alaska on a yearly basis, so this is going to be a new experience for me. I am sure that I will be figuring out some new funding sources before I even get back! Can't wait to be gone, but a bear or two needs to be shot before that happens.
