I found this on another site

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17122231/

I did not know that a cheetah was strong enough to kill a human?

Does any one have experiances with cheetahs?

They seem strong enough to kill crazies but hardly post a risk to any sane person.

Cheetahs have teeth, claws and ample speed and quite enough muscle to bring down and quickly kill fairly large gazelles and other medium-sized prey, so a woman would be (and clearly was, in this case) no problem.

It's just that, from everything I have read and heard about them, in the wild, cheetahs don't do this. They are quite timid when it comes to their attitude towards humans. They are accordingly not counted as dangerous game.

Of course, a zoo is not the wild. It has been well-documented that, owing to stress, artificially induced territoriality, a restricted "fight" radius, and other factors, caged animals can behave in ways that are totally unlike the behavior of their kind in the wild.

Bad, bad kitty.

One of the cats that killed Aerts was named Bongo, whom the woman had adopted under a special program. She paid for Bongo’s food, Libot said.

Bongo got a very special treat that night. Yum! Fresh meat. I wonder if he noticed he was eating vegetarian? Wink

Animal rights group GAI called for the immediate closure of the zoo, located 55 miles northeast of Brussels, saying it was unsafe for both visitors and the cats.
All the other cats were jealous and looking for their special treat. Probably caused quite a ruckous.

I once visited a wildlife rehabilitation center in South Africa and was allowed to enter a building where they were treating two full grown male cheetahs for feline aids. Upon our approach both males stomped their front legs which sounded like gunshots going off. And then they growled, and hissed aggressively. Due to what I saw and the power exerted by the two males, there was no doubt in my mind that either cheetah could have killed a human had they desired to.

I have my doubts about this story.

Cheetahs are very timid animals, and many reports of this sort of thing might actually mean other animals - like leoprads.

We have had cheetahs as pets for many years, and have had no problems with them whatsoever.

In fact, two males used to fight, and the only way to get them off each other was for me to go and seperate them.

I do this by whacking them on the head with my closed fist. They never turned on me.

Usually one would go off to lie down to rest, and the other would just lie down by my feet and lick them!

I lived in Belgium for over a year and in 1986 was at this zoo. Space did seem to be minimal for almost all species. There had been reports of "stress" among the animals. If no changes have been made since then, it could very well cause emotional and behavioral changes in the species kept there.

Saeed, you must have magical powers. (The
Cheetah whisperer perhaps?) Maybe the two males that I saw would have acted differently had you been there.

There has been a couple of reports over the years were tame cheetahs turned against humans but then became docile again after it.

I suppose Saeed's chetaahs knows whats good for them they probarbly have seen the gunroom Big Grin

A big cheetah male can weigh up to 65 kg and with those claws and agility they could end up hurting you bad very quickly but killing you ????? Confused

I always try to use enough gun but then sometimes a brainshot works just as good.

I am not sure how a wild animal can "betray her trust" by doing things that wild animals do. The betrayal is to do something different.
