Ganyana,

That would be my friend Niki Atcheson, see:

http://www.accuratereloading.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=690762&page=1&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=21&fpart=1

Niki was raised in Africa, and is a heck of a guide and hunter in her own right. A mutual friend was able to visit her in hospital yesterday, and the various repairs (left shoulder, right forearm and right leg) are coming along.

The inside story on the hunt is also interesting.

A 50+ year old Woman hunter has just been flattened by a buffalo in Northern Zimbabwe. The buff then had the temerity to keel over and die whilst standing on her. She is alive but needed air casavac.

That is what keeps big game hunting interesting!!! also...
That is why you take out pre-paid medical insurance when in Africa! (if you want it in Zim contact servair@mweb.co.zw - they also do special life insurance!!!)

Care to share? Many of us are curious as to the circumstances leading up to her unfortunate injury.

Agreed. I read some of that thread and did not see anything related to the circumstances surrounding the incident.

I did not realize it was confidential.

Sorry for asking what happened.

500grains,

It is not my story to share, but I will bet money that Niki will write it up for the SCI magazine. She has had I think two articles published recently there, and I know she directed her husband Keith to get as many photos as he could (of course that would be after the action!).

I will pester her to publish in any case.

The interesting thing from the Zim side is the PH is keeping very quiet. Bad form you know to have your clients stepped on while you are still fighting fit. That is why you draw fighting wages - For you I kill da Bull - or at least die trying. At least that is the theory. When the "real" story leaks its going to cost an awful lot of scotch! More Scotch than even 500Nitro can supply!

Not that there doesn't exist PH's that would die before letting their client get hammered, saving the client just is not going to be possible all the time, regardless of intent, or theory.

Some guys think that no matter how undergunned they may be or cavalier about wounding dangerous game, the PH is always going to bail them out.

Ha! Ha! Ha!

I do not think the injured lady was an inexperienced yahoo out to prove that 10 gallon hats and cast lead are buffalo medicine.

So right, Will. They're only human. Strive to hit 'em right that first shot and use all the gun you can.
