Will, Ask a stupid question...Get a funny answer! TES (The Elephant Slayer) Yes the klippy was taken at 70 (Ph Rich Tabor's estimate) or 75yds (My estimate!) Rifle was the double rifle shown in the photo, shoting a solid. We were on an elephant scouting walk far beyond the last roads and carrying minimum gear, meaning no second rifle. Some of the most beautiful country I have ever seen. I can't recall the name of the river valley, but to get there you need to walk for hours beyond the last road. Mark No, the hartebeeste came from Carolina Wilderness area in the highveld. They imported some a while back and they have done very well. Is it a good one? I don't know much about these animals at all, and have never actually seen one taken. That's an awesome kudu in the kudu thread. Well done! I shall post some elaphant bull trophy pics from Mozambique in a few days. I don't have them on my computer but will get them sent ASAP. RWS took a couple of great ones there last year, biggest just over 70 pounds.

"Please tell about the reaction of the animals to human presence up there?" Dave, It was three or four hour's hike past Peter Fick's "road". I know we were back on the Chitumbi, but I'm not sure if it was that day or another day my feet got sore! As I'm sure you know, we were far beyond the last road, and in mountaneous terrain to boot. The game didn't recognize humans as something to keep great distance from. We walked past a 52"+/- kudu and his 50" or so pal at bow hunting range, maybe 30 yards. They were worried but not enough to bolt. Had duiker and grysbok holding until 15 yards or so, but never saw a shooter. The klipspringers, especially the males, were more cautuios and wouldn't let us that close. This fellow made the mistake of stopping to look back. Phenominal day. Ohriah, one of PH Richard Tabor's trackers for those who don't know him, made a sling out of his coveralls for the three or four hour return leg. The photo was taken near camp since we didn't have a camera, or any extra weight along for the walk. Too bad since the scenery was awesome on the river. JPK Free 500grains

John Well put, that's exactly what I knew you'd write! Pete Fick's road is hardly a road eh? I love the way you describe that area, and I love that area. The whole of Chewore in fact. I'll be back there soon, in a few weeks, can't wait. Oriah is a great and fearless young tracker. He is the guy in the story 'back in the thick of it', who tracked and spotted the enraged buff bull for Rich Tabor. As you well know, he was also there when we were charged by the crazy cow on the Turgwe..... Didn't move a muscle did he?

Dave, Here is a photo from Pete Fick's "road", the Chewore River is in the background so we are on one of those short stretches that run the edge of Mana Pools, where there is no possible route on the Chewore side. Here are another couple of photos from Pete's "road", but they are looking the wrong way, back toward camp as opposed to back into the mountains. Still gives the idea of elevation. Actually, the second photo is looking to the North East from Pete's "road" and not back toward camp. We hiked a long semi circle starting to the right beyond the photo and ending down past the left of the photo, following the river, which ever river it was. Do you think it was the Chitumbi? JPK Great photos. Rich must have been like an old granny pampering his new cruiser up there! Yes, it is the Chitumbi, I'm pretty certain. I definetely recall Rich telling me about the klippie 'up the top end of the Chitumbi'. Incredible country, so removed...... By the way, I was down near the Turgwe today, where I came upon a small herd of elephants. They were in relatively open acacia and not far from the road, but the wind was good and they didn't detect me. Whilst I sat watching and marveling, a big old, mean-looking tuskless cow shuffled from the trees......

Rich wasn't bitching about the road too badly. If you look closely you can see the winch cable stretched out in the first photo. Without the winch we might still be there. JPK Free 500grains

ozhunter Hi. It is called Chirambakadoma. Check outthe story 'In the Shadow of the Mountain', on page 2, if you want. There's a pretty cool sketch of the mountain. Pete Wood is still with us. He is based in the US now (basically just during the off season), but he still works for RWS full time. He is due to arrive to begin his season any day now, and he has a heap of hunting ahead!

David, I'm new to this website and am glad I found it. I brought some clients over and hunted with Roger in 98 and 2001 in the Save and Chewore. I have another group that wants to come over in 2008. I emailed Roger but have not gotten back a response. Do you know the best way to contact him? Thanks for any advice.

sevenmagltd Good day to you Sir, you have reached the right guy. I know there have been some problems with one of the email addresses and am just not sure which one. Roger is away for a couple of days but will be back Wednesday. My address is hulmour@yahoo.com and I can forward any messages that you want to Roger, until I find out which company address you can use. If you write a letter to Roger through me, I'll ensure he gets it ASAP. Like I said, probably Wednesday. Thanks for getting in touch, I hope all works out and that you come hunting with us. Regards David
