On Boddington's buffalo video that has gotten lots of air time here lately, he put in several plugs for hunting gear. One he did not mention where he got it or if it is available is the vest with the shell carriers built in. Any info? Thanks.

Although cartridge selection is important there is nothing that will substitute for proper first shot placement. Good hunting, "D"

Texas Safari Vests...or something like that. Cabella's has them. Their web site has a picture of Mr. Boddington.

I think this is it.

"Greg -
Your Vest was Great! I wore it everyday and was grateful when I ran out of licenses so I could wash it! I have no suggestions for improvement. Many thanks and all the best."
Craig Boddington

I've chatted with the owner, Greg Brown, a few times at the Houston Safari Club conventions. He seems like a stand-up sort of guy. (I do not know him personally as a friend.) I always look at his vests, etc. on display at the show but I haven't purchased one, at least not yet. From the ones that I have examined and tried on, they seem like a real quality product. Just my two cents worth.

I have one of the vests and I like it. It has elastic in the shell holes for smaller calibers, btw. I didn't need to use them with a .475 N.E. 3 1/4" or a .470 N.E., though since the ammo fit quite tightly without it...

At least for me, the ammo was located low enough on my chest that I didn't snag it with the butt of my rifle, yet I could easily access it with either hand.

If you call the owner, a cop for his day job, he'll make you one without a logo if you wish... or with ammo loops on just one side.

JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

I have one of these, but without the logo and they are quite good.

My hunting buddy and I both bought one up at Cabela's, the Sidney, NE, store, during their July sidewalk sale (don't miss it!). The vests are the best we've tried.

While we are talking about gear featured on the above mentioned video, what about the "armbands" Craig and the PH wore?? Looked like they were made to cover wristwatches while in the field?? They looked like a useful item. Anybody knows what this is, where to obtain etc??

I've just used regular old wrist sweat bands. I find mine where they sell sports equipment (like tennis, basketball, etc..).

Steve, that's what I wear as well over my watch. I just go into Big-5 Sports in McMinnville a buy a package of black athletic wristbands. They're cheap, and they work.

I like the looks of "Texas Safari Products" safari vest and, especially their safari shirts. Really nice stuff, and practical!

I have the vest and it's extremely well made. I've worn it while on safari, but not much.

The problem is that it's quite a heavy weight garment. In the mornings and later in the day, it's okay.

But when it gets warmer, that vest feels like a winter coat and stays behind.

I also have one of these vests - ordered mine direct without the logo. I agree with everything said here (well made, lots of pockets, etc.). I also found it a little uncomfortable in "hot" weather. I started using mine on a 21 day hunt in Tanzania (Selous), by day 3 I wasn't wearing it anymore.

Filson makes a hell of a vest.Texas Safari Products would be great if they did away with the velcro.
For your watch look at Blackhawk they make a tactical watch band that gives good coverage.

Come on, be a real man on safari, and take the shirt off instead and keep wearing the vest. Cool

Wear the vest over a T-shirt if its too hot or carry a cartridge belt...A vest never bothered me unless its unbearably hot..and its normally not that bad in Tanz.

I can't imagine anything more useless than a safari vest. But perhaps it looks good on film - a fashion thing.

I wouldn't of had a problem wearing just the vest & no shirt except for the teetse fly's. Those bastards would of chewed my limbs off!! We were there in late September through mid-Oct and it was 95-98 degrees during the heat of the day. I usually wore a long sleeved cotton shirt for the bugs, 10 round catridge belt with knife, binoculars and rifle. The trackers brought the water and whatever else we needed. Only had one bad experience when I wished I had my vest. We were on a croc. hunt using a small boat. We planned to be back before dark (~6:00pm) and ended up sinking the boat. You guessed it my flashlight was in my vest (none of us had a flashlight). We didn't get back to camp until after 11:00pm and thats after walking in a river infested with crocs and hippos in the dark - the stars sure were pretty though. I have never seen a sky so full of stars as that night. I saw 3 falling stars and you can imagine what I was wishing for -- too be back in camp drinking a cold castel beer.
